Holding it Together

Led By:
Rev. Terry Sims

After months of illness, death, the continuing threat, physical distancing, economic and psychic pain, how much more must we endure because of the novel corona virus? And how? I think the how has to do with what sustains us in any crisis: hope and faith.

Arizona Friends of Homeless is a valley homeless outreach organization. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit. We are all volunteers. We serve central Phoenix early mornings Monday through Friday and have outreach teams at parks in south Phoenix and Mesa on weekends. Covid-19 curtailed our efforts in Glendale, Sunnyslope, and Tempe. We provide food, hygiene items, water, socks/drawers, pet food, backpacks, blankets, towels, bikes, resource info and more. We serve all homeless, no questions asked.

Our big project in early planning stage is a homeless internet cafe.. where we can provide internet access / coffee / snacks/ lockers / clothes / and hopefully showers. this is a fund we are starting. We wont begin any attempt at operation or lease until we have $20,000 start up bank.

I'm gonna include here our FB pages. we have 3. ARIZONA FRIENDS OF HOMELESS OUTREACH where we post local and national info on homeless issues and our current outreach efforts... ARIZONA FRIENDS OF HOMELESS ISSUES which is expressly for homeless to identify their situation and needs for angel members to help out... and then ARIZONA FRIENDS OF HOMELESS .. this is the required page for FB to identify us as a non profit.. we had to add this page after the fact... once it was clear they would not accept our first two pages ... its a bit convoluted.. admittedly..

Our AFOH web site is  ARIZONAFRIENDSOFHOMELESS.ORG

I'm including a slide show of pics of our outreach taken over the past couple of years.. so you can see better what we do.. please feel free to post the slide show video on your web site. The slide show video is here...

Help Us with a Monthly Food & Supply Drive for our Navajo Nation Community
A couple weeks ago a pick up truck full of supplies were delivered to the extended family and community of a UUCP member who live on the Navajo reservation. A wonderful team of folks came together to donate funds, and store it all to make this happen - many thanks to all of you! These supplies are very much appreciated by family members who are caring for relatives recuperating from COVID in a wide spread area where grocery and medical items are time consuming and often difficult to obtain. We anticipate doing another supply collection in early August. If you are able to help with that and are not already on the team list, Please use this form to let us know if/how you would be willing to be involved

Civic Engagement Announcements
  • County Attorneys are elected officials who serve as your county’s top prosecutors. They are the most powerful actors in the criminal justice system, deciding who goes to prison and for how long. For years, Maricopa County Attorneys have fueled growth in the prison population, supporting policies that have devastated families and communities. The ACLU summarizes the candidates’ answers to questionnaires here. Educate yourself; this vote is important!

  • Learn about your district’s candidates for the AZ Legislature. Each evening July 13-17 from 6-8:00pm, AZ Capitol Times is hosting virtual Meet the Candidates events on YouTube. Find out which evening your district’s candidates will be on and sign up to see/hear them and submit questions. (Although a fee is mentioned in the registration, it is $0 -- no charge.) If you don’t know which Legislative District (LD) you’re in, click here and enter your address in the yellow box. The number on the right is your LD.

THE INFILTRATORS is a docu-thriller that tells the true story of young immigrants who are detained by Border Patrol and thrown into a shadowy for-profit detention center—on purpose. Marco and Viri are members of the National Immigrant Youth Alliance, a group of radical DREAMers who are on a mission to stop unjust deportations. And the best place to stop deportations, they believe, is in detention. However, when Marco and Viri attempt a daring reverse ‘prison break,’ things don’t go according to plan. By weaving together documentary footage of the real infiltrators with re-enactments of the events inside the detention center, THE INFILTRATORS tells an incredible and thrilling true story in a genre-defying new cinematic language.
