Gen Justice works to mend the child protection system and bring a permanent end to innocent children enduring violence.

Our work is broad and far-reaching, resulting in life-changing impact. We work on a micro, macro and super-macro level. These three threads, bound and woven together, are the lifeline that will pull this generation up and end the violence.

We will be having a New Member Gathering on
Saturday, Nov 7th from 11-1:30pm
(with lots of breaks!)
In this group, there are people who have been part of the UUCP community for years and some who have just found us. There are some who have been to live services in the sanctuary and some who have only been with us online. Some of you are new to Phoenix, some have lived here for decades and several of you are not even in Phoenix but see a home here for you.

on Saturday, Nov 7th from 11-1:30.  This will mostly be a chance for you to get to know others in your new member class and hear about their spiritual journey and how they got to UUCP. We have seen in previous classes that these connections with others are a great way to start the connections in the community. We will have a chance to talk about any questions or observations from the videos and talk about the act of joining.

On Sunday, Nov 22ndwe will have a New Member ritual during service. You don’t have to participate, but many people love the opportunity to be seen and our community LOVES welcoming new members!

Please feel free to reach out to Rev. Christine Dance (at minister@phoenixuu.org) with any questions or concerns. It would be helpful, but not crucial, to let Gary Ezzell (at gaezzell@gmail.com) know if you plan to attend, and please let him know of any scheduling concerns you may have.
We look forward to seeing you, hearing your stories and having you be a part of this Beloved Community!

Share the Plate Announcement
Share the Plate ministry is one way we breathe life into our commitment to be agents of change in our community. We are looking for worthy organizations to be considered as a possible recipient of future donations. If you know of a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that meets our criteria, please submit their name to sharetheplate@phoenixuu.org. We’ll take it from there, sending out an application form.

CRITERIA: Non-profit 501(c)(3) in the US with local programs that serve beneficiaries in the Valley. Mission, purposes and practices must be aligned with those of UUCP values. Donations must make a significant contribution to the organization’s programs. Recipients must have a budget that is mindful of balance between program and administrative costs.

UUCP staff and volunteers have created a series of short videos describing various aspects of our congregational life. These are all on our YouTube Membership playlist, and you can watch them in any order.

These were made to support membership recruitment while we have to be online and can be accessed via our website: https://www.phoenixuu.org/about-us/joining-uucp/

Civic Engagement Announcements
Many of us have already voted -- what now? This is an in-between time, when anxieties may be roiling in each of us as we await the results of the election. Our team talked about how we will navigate the days before, during and after the election and came up with these suggestions:
· Ask yourself eight questions that can help you survive election stress.
· A Care Package for Uncertain Times from On Being is a collection of podcasts, poetry, meditations and reflection for however you’re processing this moment.
· Read this letter on hope by E.B. White.

Earth Justice Ministry Announcements
One small thing for the planet-Can you pledge to eat one meatless (that means eggs, milk and cheese) meal per day? That single act will reduce carbon emissions greatly. Help us build a collection of your favorite meatless (vegan and/or vegetarian) recipes for this purpose: Eat Plants for the Planet!
Please mail them soon to uuejministry@gmail.com.

Earth Justice Ministry supports Chispa by sending comments to the ACC to protest the rate hike being requested by APS at a time when many, especially marginalized groups and people of color, are suffering more poverty due to Covid 19. You can comment whether you're an APS customer or not. The last 3 dates and times to call in are: Saturday, October 24, 2020: 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, November 7, 2020: 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and  Monday, November 30, 2020: 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. More instructions on how to call, or to write an email or a letter instead are on the UUCP website and at this link:  Click here to learn about the Public Comment Period for APS Rate Hike.

The First Principle + Immigration Justice: Accompaniment and Dignity
Wednesday, October 28th, 6 pm
"We affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of all people." The first principle of Unitarian Universalism is a charge, not for charity, but to journey alongside asylum seekers as equals, community members, humans. How do we act for immigration justice in ways that are rooted in the restoration of dignity, the dignity our system tries to strip from migrant travelers.
Over the last nine years, Phoenix Restoration Project has created a network of folks accompanying asylum seekers, including UUs from UU Phoenix, Valley UU, Surprise, and West Valley. Hear stories, best practices, and ways to honor the dignity of our traveling friends, ask questions, and engage in discussion with Mountain Vista's Contigo team.

How can you help? By becoming an Election Defender.
October 20th to November 2nd
With the stakes being as high as they are, voter suppression already more rampant than ever, and nationalist groups emboldened by conspiracy theorists and government officials themselves, we can’t depend on anyone else ensuring people are able to vote freely and safely.
Election Defenders will be working to provide safe supports for voting (such as PPE and water), and election and voter defense, de-escalating intimidation tactics and signaling to a network of groups and lawyers if and where trouble breaks out.
These trainings will cover different areas each week so we are asking everyone to attend all trainings, or email to request a video of the training you missed.
· Poll Monitoring
· Bystander Training
· De-escalation
· Direct Action 101
· Combating Disinformation
Protecting the rights of people to vote in-person on November 3 means thousands of people signing up for different roles. Signing up today means you’ll have access to weekly training and a Slack channel, where our efforts can be coordinated around the nation. UU the Vote is part of a united front effort with hundreds of other mass-member organizations to ensure free and fair elections.

Reckoning and Resilience in a
Post-Election World
November 7th & 14th,
11 am-12 pm & 1 pm-3 pm
Join us for two sessions of learning, unlearning, feeling and sharing about our differences; moving us toward creating change - in ourselves and the world around us.

“It is not our differences that divide us, it is our inability to recognize, accept and celebrate those differences.”- Audre Lorde

In our present Time of Tumult this workshop offers a container and powerful methods for exploring, the many knotty issues of race, gender, class, religion and more, that challenge our culture, our communities, and our relationships. Rev. Anthony Johnson facilitates as part of his Multikulti program, along with UUJAZ and UU the Vote.

"The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship…. it is within each of us." - Black Elk

UUJAZ Annual Meeting
Wednesday, Nov. 11th, 6 pm
Join us for our annual business meeting, recap what we've done together as a state this year in justice work, hear from the Board, share some financial transparency, and talk about 2021 ahead. Thanks to the pandemic, there won't be an in-person Issues + Action Day this year, where this meeting is typically held. We also won't be trying to replicate a day-long event on Zoom... instead, we've been bringing you lots of virtual programming options throughout the summer and fall, and will continue to do so into 2021. Come check out what we've been working on behind the scenes!
