Jam Pak Blues ‘N’ Grass Neighborhood Band, a band of 30 children of all ages, races, and walks of life, has been making bluegrass music in the home of our band leader Mrs. Anni Beach since she founded the band in 1994. Our goal is to make people and ourselves happy with our music.
Contributions during the pandemic help pay for lessons on-line and transportation loan payments. Thank you!

The First United Church of Christ (UCC) in downtown Phoenix is sponsoring a Rice and Bean Drive to support the Latinx church community. If you would like to donate, bring some 1-pound bags of dry rice and/or beans to UUCP on Sunday morning, September 27 between 7:00am and 9:30am. Daisy Danforth will be there to collect and take them all to First UCC.

Many people have lost jobs or have reduced income due to Covid 19. Chispa is asking us to help by commenting on APS's request to the AZ Corporation Commission for a rate hike on electricity. The ACC has many dates and times to phone in your comments, or they will accept emails or letters. Either of the links below have more information on how and when to do that. You don't have to be an APS customer to comment.

Help Us with a Monthly Food & Supply Drive for our Navajo Nation Community |

Many thanks to all those who helped make it possible for UUCP to deliver last week a large supply of food, cleaning and health safety materials to our friends up on the Navajo Nation. It was, again, a wonderful team effort of donations, purchases, storage and delivery. A large amount of cleaning work and food preparation is shared around the community which is spread out over a large area, all very much appreciated by the people who participate in this work and those who benefit. We anticipate making another delivery the beginning of October. If you are able to contribute and are not already on the team list, please use this form to let us know how you would be willing to be involved. Many thanks for your generosity.

Navajo Nation – Wood Youth Project
Through our work on the Navajo Nation with the extended family of one of our congregants, we have also learned about a wonderful project begun eight years ago by the local Bahai fellowship. A cadre of middle school students has been gathered to provide service to the community, and as the youth grow older they become mentors for the younger ones. As part of preserving culture and language, the young people are learning to see their everyday chores – which are many, including carrying out ashes from the wood burning stove, feeding and herding livestock, visiting elders – not as chores, but as opportunities for service.

Maryland School
Back to School Supply Drive
Maryland School has completed the third week of online learning in this time of social isolation, with many students struggling to be focused and engaged, especially when the home situation does not provide the needed level of assistance. Teachers continue to learn new technology and ways to work with students in the virtual classrooms, spending many extra hours in preparation. As the school provides breakfast and lunch bags, we are supporting their efforts to give out supplies as well. We thank all of you who have generously contributed to that effort - the school administration has expressed their gratitude for our community of giving. This will be the last week of our collection, so if you are able to donate, please see the attached form for a list of needed supplies and a way to give.

UUCP Video Choir
Singing together is one of the fastest ways to spread an airborne illness like COVID-19, and choirs may be unsafe even when we start meeting in person again. UUCP is a singing congregation, so this is sad for all of us, but particularly for the many UUCP musicians and singers who found community in making music together- in our choir, ukulele song circle, and small ensembles.

Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution
As part of UUCP's commitment to inclusion, we will be hosting viewings and discussions of the film "Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution". Wikipedia describes it as a 2020 American documentary film directed, written and co-produced by Nicole Newnham and James LeBrecht. Barack and Michelle Obama serve as executive producers under their Higher Ground Productions banner. It received a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

It is September, the month we traditionally welcome folks "back" from the summer, and begin our program year at some of our congregations. This year is different. How will we use this virtual time to connect with each other, and ourselves, in our anti-racism, anti-oppression work? As November elections creep closer, how do our UU values fall when it comes to candidates? The choices we make, now, in how to invest our time, will determine how the racial uprising ends, how the elections are decided, and whether we Side With Love in our actions and not just our words.

Stop signing petitions; start taking action!

Call your Senator and tell them to support at least $25 billion in stimulus funding for our public Postal Service.

File an online complaint with the Inspector General for the Post Office requesting an investigation into reports of systemic mail delays, removal of mailboxes, and incidences where mail sorting machines are being eliminated from mail processing.
- Call your County Recorder and tell them you support additional ballot drop boxes.
