On Being a UU at Work
Service Leaders:  Jan Kaplan
Sunday, October 2 at 9:30 AM & 11:15 AM
Between our first work day and our last, we cover an incredible journey.  Some of us "work in the home", or have not yet begun the career journey.  How can our UU identities help us through this odyssey?  We ask the question:  "What would a UU do?"
New Day Center Meal
Sunday, October 2, 5:00 PM at the New Day Center
Live out the UU commitment to serving those in need by serving a meal to the 150 parents and children of the UMOM New Day Center. This is a one-time, two-hour commitment. Please email Cherie Stafford below for more information.
Maryland School Food Boxes
Sunday, October 2, in the Sanctuary
Food insecurity is a fact of life for so many families in our low-wage economy in Arizona.  Help us provide adequate food for students over fall break when they do not receive breakfast and lunch at school. Pick up a list of needed items at the back table and bring donations on September 25 and October 2.  Please see the October Horizon for an update from the Maryland School Task Force. For more information, please call Cathy Kim at 602-708-6423 or email her below.
UUCP Community Book Corner
Sunday, October 2nd at the back of the Sanctuary
The UUCP Community Book Corner is the first Sunday of each month.
October's theme is Diversity and Multiple Identities and there are three featured books, one each, for adults, young adults and children.
There will be other books, as well, which promote our UU values.
Come celebrate the theme of Diversity and Multiple Identities with a purchase, browsing or sharing your thoughts.

Living Beyond Like-Minded People
Service Leaders:  Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray
Sunday, October 9 at 9:30 AM & 11:15 AM
People often say they came to UU congregations to be with like-minded people. However, with time we come to discover that we don't all look at things the same way. How do we practice the art of really embodying a celebration of difference? And at the same time what still holds us together?

In 90 min, learn how to make an organic magic garden layered straw and hay garden anywhere, even in your rock yard!  Leave with instructions, a planting calendar, compost knowledge, fast auto irrigation demos, and how to choose a garden spot.

Bring a hat, sunscreen, and garden gloves if you have them.  Please rsvp to Kim below so we have enough hand-outs!
Community Night & Indentity Groups
Thursday, October 6 at 6:00 PM in the Johnson Room
Community nights are opportunities for us to gather together and eat in community. Come for a meal and stay for identity groups. For more information about community nights, please email Sky WIlliams below.

Our religious heritage, gender and race have profound effects on our lives. On each of these three evenings, all members and friends of UUCP are invited to connect with others over personal stories of how we've noticed these identities in our own lives and the lives of people we know. Regardless of your background, you belong in these groups!

Young Adult Small Group
Tuesday, October 11, at 6:45 PM in Annex C
Facilitators:  Caitlin Tuffin-Gaspar & Sarah Moore
The young adult small group is a place for "younger" adults to get together and talk about issues important to us. We provide a safe space to share ideas and challenge each other respectfully. We are an open group and anyone who feels they are a young adult - regardless of age - is welcome to join and share their thoughts with us. For more information, please email Caitlin below.
Coming of Age for Adults
First Meeting - Thursday, October 20, at 7:00 PM
Facilitators:  Kim St. Clair & Gary Ezzell
We've listened to inspiring Coming of Age speeches for 15 years, many wishing for a similar experience. Now it's here! Using a small group format and competencies from the youth COA, we'll explore UU history, principles and engage in deep conversations with each other and people of different faiths. At the end, participants will write their own statement of belief, clarifying what is most important, and be invited to share these as a part of a service. To register for this class, please visit the link below.
