Sunday, April 9, 2023 - 10 a.m.
What is Easter all about, anyway, and what does it have to teach us about our own Unitarian Universalist faith? What can we learn from the empty tomb of 2,000 years ago?
So we can begin the service promptly at 10 a.m., please arrive at the church, or sign into Zoom ( click here) by no later than 9:50 a.m.
Welcoming Families and Children on Sunday Mornings

"The Diversity of Life"
In his book An Immense World, Ed Yong notes, “We humans are so deeply embedded in our own particular way of seeing the world that we find it hard not to impose our perspective on other creatures — if indeed we bother thinking about them at all.” As Unitarian Universalists we work hard to understand and learn from the perspectives of other people. What might we learn by considering the perspectives of animals and how they perceive the world? Join Rev. Sue Browning and Kim Agee for this Earth Day service (a few days early!) where we’ll consider the power of looking at the diversity of life on earth in a fresh way.
- Rev. Sue Browning, Minister
- Kim Agee, Service Leader
- Michael Casey, Musician
- Philip Dutton, Guest Musician
Sunday, April 23 — In Person & ZOOM
"Change is Gonna Do You Good"
Change is inevitable. Look around you. Look at you! We can be authors and designers of change, or we can be passive observers. The choice is yours.
Join us as we look at this ongoing phenomenon in our lives and consider:
- How are we handling change personally?
- How are we handling change as a congregation?
This crazy, wonderful world is not done changing,
and neither are we!
- Annie Lavin & John Ramsey, Speakers
- Michael Casey, Musician

And the Opposite of Resistance Is…
Our theme from Soul Matters this month is “Resistance.” Resistance is defined as “the refusal to accept or comply with something or the attempt to prevent something by action or argument.”
We resist when we fight for fairer laws and policies. We resist when we prevent those abusing their power from doing harm. We resist when we avoid the temptations of unsafe choices.
There is value in knowing when and how to resist.
And too, it’s easy to routinely default to a stance of resistance; to be on-the-ready to critique, to argue and to oppose pretty much all of the time.
What’s the opposite of resistance? It could be acquiescence, which sounds passive. It could be intentional acceptance and welcome. When we’re less resistant, might we be more curious and open?
How might a sense of curiosity and openness, help us to explore the meanings of religious and secular holidays this month? What we might learn as Unitarian Universalists from the Passover or Easter stories, from the rituals of Ramadan, and in the honoring of Earth Day? Where are there transforming lessons in these stories, rituals, and celebrations? What might we learn of courage, humility, and uncertainty if we "take in" and reflect, rather than resist?
There is something in these early warm, gentle, summer-like spring days — images of new life — of fresh growth and birds chirping — that have me wondering about the ways we might be inspired, and even transformed, when we let our guard down and resist just a bit less.
In hope,
Rev. Sue
