In-person & Zoom Worship Service
Sunday, February 27, 2022 | 10 am
Rev. James Gibbons Walker, Affiliate Minister of First Unitarian Church of Baltimore, invites reflection on what it means to live as a Unitarian Universalist in light of the words of William Sloan Coffin, “The leap of faith is not so much a leap of thought as of action,” and James Baldwin’s words, “I cannot believe what you say, because I see what you do.”
So we can begin the worship service promptly at 10 am, please sign into Zoom ( click here) by no later than 9:50 am.
If not attending the service either in person, or by Zoom, please submit "Joys and Concerns" and "Announcements" in advance by emailing them to the UUCR office ( click here) by 9 pm Saturday.

Sunday, March 6 — In-person & Zoom
"About Patience ..."
Is patience a good thing? Is it ever right (and even necessary) to be impatient? What do the various faith traditions have to say on patience? At this service with Rev. Sue Browning we'll reflect on our understanding and practices around patience.

Holding Our Center in Trying Times
|
The stewardship campaign is in full swing. Thanks to those of you who have already responded by sending in your pledge forms! We're just giving a gentle reminder that your Stewardship Committee is standing by, eagerly anticipating those forms rolling in. Jim Lavin, our wonderful Finance Committee Chair, has recorded an explanation of the FY 23 budget, if you would like more information on how we plan to use our shared resources. For the private YouTube link to this recorded budget presentation, please check for the email sent to you from UUCR on Sunday, February 20.
In gratitude from your Stewardship Committee,
Jackie Mathwich, Catherine Brooks, Joy Kim, and Peggy McKee

Discontinuation of
Grocery Card Program
|
|
We still have $700.00 worth of grocery cards (they can be used at any Acme, Albertsons', or Safeway) in the following denominations: 3 - $100, 8 - $50. Once gone, UUCR will discontinue selling grocery cards. Please help put these funds back into our checking account by purchasing the remaining cards.
THANKS!

A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated to Rebuilding Together Kent County. We have been able to make critical home repairs for so many neighbors in need through your generosity. If anyone would like more information about the organization, would like to volunteer, or know someone who might benefit from our services, please check our website.
With gratitude, Pam Vogel, board member and volunteer.

Farewell, Carl and Brenda!
|
|
Longtime member Carl Gallegos and his wife Brenda are moving from Chestertown to Frederick County. We wish them our best as we reflect on the contributions that Carl, staunchly supported by Brenda, has made to our community. Among other things, Carl:
Spearheaded the process for our becoming a certified Green Sanctuary congregation and Wildlife Habitat;
Promoted the creation of our Memorial Woodland Garden, played a major part in its design and content, and wrote a manual that indexed, illustrated, and described each of the trees on our property;
Found ways for us interact with other organizations working to mitigate climate change;
Helped us celebrate the coming of spring each year by hosting a Sock Burning ceremony;
Served us in numerous leadership roles, including president of the board of trustees, through the last fifteen years.
This past Sunday current board president Nancy Holland presented Carl with a portfolio of photographs, compiled by David Biehler, highlighting the panoply of activities and events that Carl has led or inspired at UUCR, along with a frame that allows him to change these images at will.
Thank you, Carl, for your gifts to us. How we will miss you!

Precious Metals Event Coming March 19
|
You may be wondering how you can help UUCR raise funds from silver, gold, and coins that you are ready to part with. We have secured the services of Dominic Costantino of Greenwich Coins in St. Michaels to appraise your items including sterling silver serving items, broken or incomplete jewelry sets, older coins (1964 or older), old watches, rings ... even gold or silver dental work. You can bring your items to church before the event, or we can arrange for pickup prior to the event. You can also make an appointment to meet with Dominic from 10 am – 3 pm on March 19 at the church to review your donations. The church will receive cash for the full value of the appraised items. We encourage you to bring items that may be questionable and any items that are not accepted will be returned to you. There are flyers on the reception table in the lobby with more information about Greenwich Coins and Dominic welcomes calls. You can also contact Lynn Dolinger ( lynn.thirdwish@gmail.com) or Gerry Edwards ( gerryedwards@atlanticbb.net) with questions. So, start searching — let the fun begin!

Saturday, April 30 — Save the Date for UUCR’s 2022 Auction
|
Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 30! We hope to hold an in-person auction that night, depending upon how the COVID virus is behaving in Kent County. At the very least we will hold an online auction.
In the meantime, be thinking of items, or services, to contribute!
Our committee needs helpers, particularly those who are handy with a camera!
Please contact Jane Hardy at janewhardy@gmail.com or 410-639-7811 if you have questions, or something you’d like to donate.

Are You a Techie or a Wannabe?
|
|
UUCR needs a few good folks to join our Tech Team. We are so grateful to Jim Lavin, John Ramsey, and David Biehler for facilitating our hybrid and Zoom Sunday services for more than a year now. These fellows need some help so they don’t have to cover every Sunday. If you enjoy working with computers, cameras, and techie things, please volunteer to help with this important work. Our Tech gurus will be happy to train you.
Please contact Jim Lavin for more information or to volunteer.

A Time of Giving — Giving of Your Time
With the Stewardship Campaign in full swing there’s no better time to think about the non-monetary contributions you can make to UUCR. A financial commitment is important and an intellectual one is as well.
The church is doing so many wonderful things, even through very challenging times. Each activity, no matter how large or small, is a testament to our desire to come together and make a commitment to our community.
The LDC asks that you consider how you might participate on a committee, as a trustee, and/or a part of our community leadership. We welcome volunteers. If you want to do more, contact Amy Warner, Diane Shields, or M.Q. Riding. In the coming weeks, we will be asking members to sign on to a role to help UUCR deliver its mission. Will you answer the call?
In faith, Amy, Diane, & M.Q.
