UPCOMING

WORSHIP SERVICE

Sunday, January 7 — In-Person & ZOOM

“Optimism is an Ethical Principle: Why I Must be an Optimist”

From our guest speaker, Bob Clegg: "A few months ago, a member of another congregation asked, 'Well, what the hell is ethics anyway!?' Her question was rhetorical, but it set me to pondering on the ways ethical questions—and systems of thinking about them—have impacted my life. I invite you to join with me to explore the importance of examining our own lives through the lens of ethics."

  • Dr. Bob Clegg, Guest Speaker
  • Nancy Holland, Service Leader
  • Michael Casey, Musician
  • Amy Warner, Youth & Teen Welcome
  • Peggy Christie, Greeter

Upcoming Worship Services

Sunday, January 21 — In-Person & Zoom

"What is Collective Liberation All About?"

Our Universalist forebearers didn't see that it was possible for anyone to end up in hell. They saw that all were worthy, and thus all would be saved. Today, Rev. Dr. Sofia Benacourt finds it is these Universalist roots that guide us to "an idea of collective liberation where we leave no person behind." At this service with Rev. Sue Browning, we'll consider ways modern-day practices of collective liberation move us toward Dr. Martin Luther King's vision of a beloved community.

  • Rev. Sue Browning, Minister
  • Jan Sprinkel, Service Leader
  • Michael Casey, Musician

Sunday, January 28 — In-Person & Zoom

“Starting Over”

The New Year always offers the temptation to make resolutions, examine expectations, and start over. It is not, however, a magical moment of transformation. Real change requires intention, commitment, and, most importantly, a new way of thinking.

  • Rev. Greg Chute, Guest Speaker
  • Annie Lavin, Service Leader
  • Michael Casey, Musician

Social Justice Committee

Social Justice Committee's January Outreach

for the Baltimore Abortion Fund

Last Sunday, the SJ Committee launched its outreach for the Baltimore Abortion Fund with an informative discussion after the service on women's reproductive health issues led by Lauren Harton, CNM, clinician at the Easton Health Center/Planned Parenthood.

Speaking from her own experience, she told the group about how the Baltimore Abortion Fund (BAF) is a dependable, constant source of funds for women who go to the Easton Health Center and need money to access their and other organizations' services. Visit the Baltimore Abortion Fund website to learn more about their mission and activities.

Her testimony about the value of BAF strengthens the committee's resolve to make a generous donation from UUCR at the end of the month. Although yesterday's plate collection went to the fund, there are still ways that you can make a donation until the end of the month. Use the donation link on UUCR's website and designate it for "BAF" or "January Outreach Collection," or put a check in the collection plate with a note that indicates it's for BAF.

We appreciate your donation this month and to all of the other causes that align with our UU values throughout the year.

UUCR's Auction Fundraiser — March 2

AUCTION TIME!

Save the Date: Saturday, March 2, 6 pm

Come to UUCR to bid on services, meals, excursions, etc., offered by our members and friends.

And to bid silently on a selection of fine objects

Are you downsizing? Moving? As you sort through what “stays” and what "must go,” don’t forget about the UUCR auction as a landing spot for those items that are too special to go to charities but may no longer “fit” in your surroundings.

Please email Jane Hardy at janewhardy@gmail.com if you would like to make a donation or have questions. Thanks!

Pastoral Care & Connection

You are encouraged to share your joys and sorrows with the UUCR Pastoral Associates (see below). This team is a mixed group — but all have had previous life experiences and a variety of professional training in counseling and philosophy. Please contact one, or several of us, if you “want to talk.”
