THIS SUNDAY'S
INGATHERING
WORSHIP SERVICE
|
|
|
"Where Do You Belong?"
Rev. Greg Chute, Guest Speaker
Annie Lavin, Service Leader
In Person & Zoom
Sunday, September 11, 2022
Join us as we mark the end of summer and return to our traditional Sunday services on September 11. Rev. Greg Chute will begin the new church year with a sermon on "belonging."
We all belong to a vast array of groups: family, friends, political parties, nations, book clubs, tennis teams, denominations, etc. Some of these groups we choose, some we are born into, some we cherish, some we're not so pleased with, some we acknowledge, some we are hardly aware of. Perhaps by exploring together our many groups we can better understand how we fit in, and how they fulfill our need for belonging.
- Rev. Greg Chute, Guest Speaker
- Annie Lavin, Service Leader
- Kate Bennett, Musician
Please remember that there will be a Special Congregational Meeting following the service (see details below).
So we can begin the discussion promptly at 10 am, please sign into Zoom ( click here) or arrive by no later than 9:50 am.

Upcoming Worship Services

Sunday, September 18 — In Person & ZOOM
"Finding the Light - Our Water Communion Service"
During the course of the pandemic many of the ways we connected formally and informally in our communities were interrupted. What in our relationships needs to be restored and revitalized? Why? At this service led by Rev. Sue Browning we'll explore the ways our congregation can serve as roots and wings as we imagine our vision for connection for the coming year. The service will include our annual Water Communion services. (Stay tuned for specific details on the Water Communion!)
- Rev. Sue Brown, Minister
- Jan Sprinkel, Service Leader
- Michael Casey, Musician
Sunday, September 25 — In Person & ZOOM
"Liberal is Not a Four-lettered Word"
Freedom is a word that has been bandied about in the United States for many years. Conservatives of late have been claiming to be the true proponents of freedom and labeling liberals as oppressors and communists. Yet, the root of the word, liberal, comes from the Latin word for freedom. Unitarian Universalism has long been known as a liberal faith tradition — as “a faith for the free” in the words of Unitarian theologian James Luther Adams. In this service, Rev. Karyn Marsh will explore what liberal means in Unitarian Universalism.
- Rev. Karyn Marsh, Guest Speaker
- Nancy Holland, Service Leader
- Al Martinez, Musician

Notice of Special Congregational Meeting
|
|
A Congregational Meeting will be held on Sunday, September 11 following the Sunday Service.
The purpose of the meeting will be to present proposals to improve the accessibility of our building and grounds by installing an automatic door opener on the side entrance and installing a paved pathway to the Woodland Memorial Garden.
A question and answer session will be held after the presentation, followed by a vote of the congregation. This requires a quorum of 20% of the membership, so please plan to attend the meeting. Friends and visitors are invited to attend, although only members who have signed the Membership Book prior to June 12, 2022 will be eligible to vote.
In gratitude,
Lynn Geisert, President

If you have any questions please contact a member of the committee.
Thank you,
For the Re-Opening Task Force, Jim Lavin

Guidelines for 2022 Sunday Services
Updated September 1, 2022
When Inside
-
All persons must sign in by putting a check next to their name on the attendance sheets located on the foyer table upon entering the church. This is important and there are no exceptions. This information will be used for Contact Tracing in the unlikely event that an attendee or someone close to the attendee is exposed to the virus.
- Face masks are now optional.
- Congregants may sing and use the hymnals.
- The sound system will be used in such a manner as to allow for "Joys and Concerns" without touching the mic. Also, a brief discussion period, using the same mic, will follow the service. A stationary mic will be available near the piano to facilitate the foregoing.
- Live instrumental music may be played. Vocal musicians may sing with masks optional.
- Restrooms may be used. (Please clean up after use.)
- Coffee and food may now be served in the church.
- There is no limit on participation.
- The service will be Live Zoomed for those who cannot attend.
- Please DO NOT use the church if you are symptomatic for the Covid-19 virus or any other transmittable disease that could compromise the health of another congregant.
- UUCR expects all who attend in-person services to be fully vaccinated and boosted, if eligible. We understand that a few people may have a medical exception to being vaccinated, yet for the majority and to protect those who cannot be vaccinated, we ask others to be fully vaccinated and boosted.
- Passing of the collection basket is permitted.
- Please avoid using the office if at all possible.
If there are any questions regarding these guidelines, please feel free to contact a member of the Re-Opening Task Force: Rev. Sue Browning, Lynn Geisert (President), Gayle Folger, Jackie Mathwich, Pat Bjorke, or Jim Lavin (Chair).

It is with great pleasure that we announce hiring a new pianist/piano accompanist, Michael Casey. Michael is a classically trained musician who also loves to sing. He graduated from St. Mary’s College and moved to Rock Hall last year. He performs locally and also gives private piano lessons. Michael will begin playing at our September 18th Sunday service. Please give him a warm welcome (and check out his website here.)

The UUCR Membership Committee is enthused to learn that many of the UUCR Covid restrictions have been lifted. This means that we will begin serving coffee (and maybe even treats) after Sunday services! And hopefully scheduling monthly potluck dinners again soon.
There will be signup sheets posted on the "white board" for both "Greeters" and "Coffee Makers." Please sign up for a Sunday!! Training is available if you have not done it before.

Calling All Gardeners —
Fall Planting Day
|
|
B&G is planning a Fall Planting Day. We will be planting a substantial number of bulbs and new plants along with some trimming and pruning. The obvious purpose is to brighten the church grounds for this coming spring and the summer. We will also be removing dead or diseased plants.
All will happen in early November, and all pro and amateur gardeners will be welcome to participate. Watch for the date!!
