THIS WEEK'S DISCUSSION SERVICE

Sunday, August 24 — 10 am

In-person ONLY

"2,600 Years of Buddhism"

Dr. J.P. Agrawal, Discussion Leader

This discussion is not about the long history of Buddhism. It is about how a good meditation session is difficult to accomplish due to an ever-wandering mind. I will show a video first to prime your mind towards meditation and then open for discussion on your experience and input. If time permits, I will show another video about the Indian Emperor “Ashoka the Great,” a Hindu turned Buddhist in the 2nd century B.C. I will finish with a third short video with Buddhist chants.

UPCOMING DISCUSSION SERVICES

AUG 31 | "It's a Celebration!," M. Q. Riding & other UUCR members,

Discussion Leaders — In-person ONLY

Winding up the summer programs, the August 31st Sunday service will be a bit different. A small group of members will be leading the service, which will be a celebration about the upcoming church year. There will be brunchy treats and light refreshments while we talk about activities planned and those that we might do (not yet planned) in the coming year. Come join us for some fun, snacks, and a bit of brainstorming before the church year begins.

SEP 07 | "Ingathering and Water Communion: Emergence,"

Rev. Kathryn Adams, Minister — In-person & Zoom

As we begin our congregational year together, let us focus on what wants to emerge for us in this time. What wants to emerge for us as individuals and what wants to emerge for us as a community. Bring your gifts, talents, hopes, and dreams to mix with our losses, grief, pain, and rage. Everything belongs in this time of upheaval; this is how we build our vision.

Please bring a small sample of water from your favorite place or summer jaunts.

SEP 14 | "Hearts in a Holy Place," Rev. Kimberly Debus, Guest Speaker — In-person & Zoom

How do we find joy and grace in a world full of despair? How do we stay soft when the world is so hard? We will consider these questions and explore practices for resilience in these times.
