THIS WEEK'S WORSHIP SERVICE

Sunday, October 27, 2024 - 10 a.m.

"Healing with Community, Belonging, and Love"

Building on our discussions on deep listening, it is time to decide. Today we will explore repair and crisis contemplation. We live in a time of many crises. With integrity, wholeness, and love, we can be a village that responds communally with belonging, resistance, and resilience. In love and lament, we can decide.

  • Nancy Holland, Worship Leader
  • Michael Casey, Musician
  • Lynn Geisert, Greeter
  • Peggy Christie, Coffee Host

UPCOMING WORSHIP SERVICES

November 10 | "Duty to the Past, Duty to the Future" — In-person & Zoom

As the results of the recent election are digested, the nation pauses to remember the service and sacrifice of people who served in the Armed Forces, and to also be mindful of what we owe to those who will inherit this country, this world from us. What is the unfinished business of our time?

  • Rev. Paul Boothby, Guest Speaker
  • Kim Agee, Worship Leader
  • Michael Casey, Musician
  • M.Q. Riding, RE

November 17 | "What Brings Us Back to Church (or to Church for the First Time)?" — In-person & Zoom

We all have our stories to tell, our needs to share, and our beliefs to explore. Churches and religious communities in general provide a safe place—at least, they should—to do these things. For some of us, a Unitarian Universalist religious community is the only one in which we would feel at home.

  • Rev. David Hunter, Guest Speaker
  • Jan Sprinkel, Worship Leader
  • Michael Casey, Musician
  • Judy Graham, Greeter
  • Linda Dutton, RE

MINISTER'S COLUMN

Beloveds,

Happy Halloween!! Meaningful Samhain!! Amazing Autumn is here, and the world is reminding us that we are in transition. First frosts on the ground, excited children preparing for Halloween, and the rituals of remembrance. Such a full time of year.

I am so looking forward to spending time with the community on November 1 in our Ritual of Remembrance at 5pm. I think remembering those we have lost to death is one of the central tasks of the religious community. In doing so, we recognize our own mortality. We get to gently approach the idea that we too will, eventually, cross over the veil.

Samhain is a Celtic pagan holiday celebrated when it was believed the veil or divide between the living and dead was thin. It is not a mistake that our Christian ancestors designated this All Saints Day. The earth is announcing the changing of the seasons with a riot of color in our temperate forest region with both joy and beauty, harvest, plenty, and the death of leaves and coming of winter. I look forward to sharing the beauty of our memorial garden in remembrance, recognizing our ancestors and ancestry.

Beloveds, it is good to be together.

CHANGE YOUR CLOCKS

In the sanctuary, after church on November 3rd, the Legacy Committee will present to members attending an update on what we have accomplished. The committee will talk about recommendations to manage the Legacy Fund. In addition, we'll identify the plan going forward to increase the value of the Fund. This education session will be a short presentation, and then the committee members (Amy Warner, Bob Bjork, Bill Gimpel, and M.Q. Riding) will participate in a Q&A session. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

NOT TO BE A BROKEN RECORD, BUT...

...we need volunteers to serve as greeters, Coffee Hour hosts, and potluck hosts. Please sign up on the sheets provided on the whiteboard. If you've never done this before and would like to help, or have questions, please see Diane Shields.
