POTLUCK AT UUCR — AUGUST 16

This month's potluck will be held at UUCR (914 Gateway Dr., Chestertown) on Friday, August 16th, beginning at 6 PM. Our host will be David Biehler. Please bring a dish to share, and if you can, please help with the clean-up afterwards. THANKS!

UU THE VOTE OPPORTUNITIES

The Social Justice Committee, along with Rev. Kathryn, are sharing information about how UUCR's members and friends can get involved in action for the upcoming election through UU the Vote. Below is an invitation to weekend canvass activations coming up; in particular, the one in Philadelphia sounds doable. Rev. Kathryn will gladly coordinate transportation support for those who are interested in the Philadelphia canvass, Friday, September 6th to Saturday Sept 7th and sign up by Aug 15th.

Here's the details and more opportunities:

The weekend canvass activations in Philadelphia from Friday, September 6th, to Saturday, Sept 7th, Pittsburgh over the weekend of September 21–22, and Raleigh, NC, the weekend of Oct 25–27. UU The Vote will be arranging home hospitality for all three of these canvasses to accommodate folx coming in from out of town.

Rev. Dr. Sofia Bentancourt will be speaking to the group at the Philadelphia activation. Housing and transportation support will be coordinated towards the end of August.

Here is the link to the UU The Vote Canvass and Phone Bank activities this coming fall.

YOUNG VOTER REGISTRATION CAMPAIGN

Dear Friends,

Below is my mini-campaign to my granddaughter and beyond (especially family in Pennsylvania). It’s a reminder from our generation to hers of our values. Consider adapting this to send to family or friends, whatever we can do to get the youth vote out. (Note that I’ve already heard back from a Pennsylvania nephew who will vote from U. Mich.) Let’s create a wave!  A personal message might make the difference.

Gerry Edwards

Iris, before leaving for college, do register to vote and request an absentee ballot for November. Please encourage all your friends to do the same! I’m sending a similar email to all my friends who have family or friends with children or grandchildren. This is a critical election for all of us, but especially for your generation, so please vote!

Much love,

Grandmother
