THIS WEEK'S DISCUSSION SERVICE

Sunday, August 3 — 10 am

In-Person ONLY

"Book Discussion: The Fifth Sacred Thing by Starhawk"

Deb Reid, Discussion Leader

“An epic novel set in 21st-century California about love and war, body and spirit, freedom and slavery, and the future of human life itself.”

This is a fictional novel that so clearly represents where we are today as a human race… as we struggle in a world that is a mix of hope, compassion, and love but also oppression, violence, and greed. I read this book 20 years ago, and it still impacts me today. It helped to inform how I want to approach living in this world and how to heal all the areas where we harm ourselves, each other, and the earth. Should lead to some interesting conversations about the power of combined action, possibilities, and where reality intersects with hope.

FIRST THURSDAY CONVERSATIONS

August 7th is the next "First Thursday Conversations." Please contact Rev. Kathryn to schedule an appointment beginning at noon.

SMALL GROUP MINISTRY = CHALICE CIRCLES

On July 20th Michael Morris and M.Q. Riding led a summer discussion on Chalice Circles. The intention was to introduce the concept and to gauge the interest in small group ministry among our members. Based on the enthusiasm in the room on that Sunday morning, UUCR will be setting up two Chalice Circles beginning in September.

For those of you who missed the discussion on the 20th, small group ministry involves intentional, lay-led groups within a congregation focused on building community, fostering spiritual growth, and engaging with meaningful topics. These groups, typically consisting of 8-10 members, provide a space for deeper relationships, shared experiences, and mutual support.

Please take a moment to fill out this survey: https://form.jotform.com/252104108928150

to help us gauge the interest in Chalice Circles at UUCR.

EASTERN NECK: CAN IT SURVIVE

FEDERAL BUDGET CUTS?

First public meeting of Citizens Connect

August 18 • 5-6:30 pm • At UUCR

Citizens Connect, a new grassroots community initiative founded by UUCR members Eileen Kessler and Joan Caivano, is holding its first public meeting on August 18th. Citizens Connect brings people together in Kent County to discuss concerns sparked by government executive orders and legislation. Its goal is to encourage informed, respectful discussions from diverse perspectives to sharpen people’s understanding of the issues, support local public service organizations, and encourage feedback to elected officials. The August meeting, Eastern Neck: Can it Survive Federal Budget Cuts, features Bill Burton and Bonnie Ford, leaders of Friends of Eastern Neck, who will talk about the Wildlife Refuge’s importance and how it is threatened by severe Federal budget cuts.

LEGACY DAY — AUGUST 15 -17

UUCR financially supports this event and their small rack card is posted on our bulletin board.
