THIS WEEK'S DISCUSSION SERVICE

Sunday, August 17 — 10 am

In-Person ONLY

"End-of-Life Decisions"

Connie Schroth, Discussion Leader

Advance planning for our end-of-life can be an important part of living. It can provide guidance for our families, loved ones, and caregivers during the difficult time leading up to our death. If documented and shared, it can help ensure that we get the care we want and avoid what we don’t want. But where do we start? The discussion “END-OF-LIFE DECISIONS” is only the beginning of the planning process. In this short time, we will answer a few simple questions and share resources to help us start making thoughtful choices now as we begin the advance planning process.

UPCOMING DISCUSSION SERVICES

AUG 24 | "2600 Years of Buddhism," Dr. J. P. Agrawal,

Discussion Leader — In-person ONLY

This discussion is not about the long history of Buddhism. It is about how a good meditation session is difficult to accomplish due to an ever-wandering mind. I will show a video first to prime your mind towards meditation and then open for discussion on your experience and input. If time permits, I will show another video about the Indian Emperor “Ashoka the Great,” a Hindu turned Buddhist in the 2nd century B.C. I will finish with a third short video with Buddhist chants.

AUG 31 | "It's a Celebration," M. Q. Riding & other UUCR members,

Discussion Leaders — In-person ONLY

Winding up the summer programs, the August 31st Sunday service will be a bit different. A small group of members will be leading the service, which will be a celebration about the upcoming church year. There will be brunchy treats and light refreshments while we talk about activities planned and those that we might do (not yet planned) in the coming year. Come join us for some fun, snacks, and a bit of brainstorming before the church year begins.

SEP 07 | Ingathering, Rev. Kathryn Adams, Minister —

In-person & Zoom

SEP 14 | Rev. Kimberly Debus, Guest Speaker — In-person & Zoom

EASTERN NECK: CAN IT SURVIVE

FEDERAL BUDGET CUTS?

First public meeting of Citizens Connect

August 18 • 5-6:30 pm • At UUCR

Citizens Connect, a new grassroots community initiative founded by UUCR members Eileen Kessler and Joan Caivano, is holding its first public meeting on August 18th. Citizens Connect brings people together in Kent County to discuss concerns sparked by government executive orders and legislation. Its goal is to encourage informed, respectful discussions from diverse perspectives to sharpen people’s understanding of the issues, support local public service organizations, and encourage feedback to elected officials. The August meeting, Eastern Neck: Can It Survive Federal Budget Cuts, features Bill Burton and Bonnie Ford, leaders of Friends of Eastern Neck, who will talk about the Wildlife Refuge’s importance and how it is threatened by severe federal budget cuts.

LEGACY DAY — AUGUST 15 -17
