What Are Your
Anti-Racism Commitments?
|
|
Check in Every First Wednesday at 7 p.m. for Support and Feedback
During my sermon on Sunday, June 21, I encouraged each congregant to make one specific commitment to support ending racism. As I explained, I will host a Zoom call on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m., starting July 1, where we will be able check in with one another on our progress. The call will be brief, and will focus on encouragement and learning.

RACIAL JUSTICE: WHAT CAN WE DO NOW?
|
25 Challenges to White People -- As part of the 100 Days of Action, SACRJ (Kent County's Social Action Committee for Racial Justice) has issued "25 Challenges to White People" to help us all become more aware of systemic racism in our country. The point is for you as a white person to choose a challenge that makes you step out of your comfort zone. Persons of color have to live in discomfort and endure the trauma of racism every day. White people must pick up the baton and learn to be uncomfortable as they move to eliminate racism. Saying you are not a racist does not mean you are an anti-racist.
Step out of your comfort zone: conquer new challenges on this list.
https://tinyurl.com/25-challenges-for-white-people.
SACRJ's "Feed the Elderly Initiative" -- The Kent County government has concluded that a sole source contract is not viable and decided that the "Feed the Elderly" program should be put out for competitive bid. The funding to continue the program under a new organization is through a federal grant. As of this week, Farmerswagon.org is no longer involved. SACRJ will continue to lead this initiative until the bid process is complete and a contract is awarded. Therefore,
we will need everyone's help to make sure there is no break in service to our county's seniors. You can help by
volunteering (email
SA
Cracialjustice@gmail.com), by
donating food items
at the trailer located in front of Frank Rhodes' shop on Morgnec Rd. or with
cash donations through the Sumner Hall website. We have been overwhelmed by the support from this community and will be deeply grateful for any support you can offer during the next few weeks to help our most vulnerable community members. If you have any questions, please email us at
SACracialjustice@gmail.com.
