Faith is a commitment to live as if certain things are true, and thereby help to make them so. Faith is a commitment to live as if life is a wondrous mystery, as if life is good, as if love is divine, as if we are responsible for the well-being of those
around us. ~Rev. Galen Guengrich
Loved Into Being: A Stewardship Worship Service, from UUA

Today, we join UUs around the country, and the world, to be “loved into being."
A very short (but important!) video from our own Dave Ruede will follow worship.

  • Worship Service: will be available at 8am on Sunday. It is 1 hour and 15 mins long, plus Dave's 3 minute video, so plan accordingly!

Religious Exploration
A song: I behold you,
beautiful one

This week, Lee and Hippo teach a beautiful song in a 2 minute video. We hope you'll learn it and sing it to yourself, your loved ones, the seeds in your garden and all beings on the planet!

  • RE Zoom time: 9am. Let's share some special things we have at home that we use to take care of ourselves!

Daylight Savings time begins Sunday!
So you don't miss coffee hour or our RE gathering:
Remember to set your clocks forward an hour!
NEW -- “Starting on Easter, and for the rest of this congregational year, all worship services will be live on Zoom on Sunday morning at 10am!”
Spiritual Enrichment
One piece of commitment is creating healthy habits. What's one thing you can commit to doing for the next 30 days? Even the tiniest step moves us towards a healthier life and a more just world.

Check out this Google Doc for spiritual exercises, videos, music, movie, and book suggestions for our theme of Commitment.

2021-22 Pledge Drive Kick-off
Today we're launching our Annual Pledge Drive, on the anniversary of the start of our year-long virtual journey. I am asking all to read the pledge drive letter and print out a pledge card to fill out and mail to UUCSC by April 4, 2021.

A local UU congregation was a must-have factor for my decision to move to Southern RI. Supporting UUCSC is always a priority in our home that helps ensure our community has a liberal religious voice. I am asking you to make a generous pledge this year to keep our Beacon of Hope healthy and vibrant.

Thank you in advance for your support,
Dave Ruede and your Stewardship Committee

UUA Assembly News

For many, singing in the choir is a key part of coming together as UUs at General Assembly. This year, instead of joining our voices in person, let’s join our voices in a virtual choir! Each singer will record a video of themselves singing, and those individual videos will be edited into one glorious combined video to be premiered during GA. Advance registration is required and space is limited.
Black Lives Matter
Watch for a congregational meeting
to vote on the adoption of the
8th Principle by UUCSC.
Building Beloved Community and journeying toward spiritual wholeness isn’t easy. The proposed 8th UU Principle invites us to 'accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.' Dismantling means taking apart something which has been built up. Racism has been built up for over 400 years. Through this 8th principle UUs commit to the hard journey."

Our Stories
Larry Kelland feels most spiritual in the presence of nature. In his travels he has experienced the grandeur of the glaciers in Alaska and the majestic night sky in Australia.

Update from last week--
Thank you for supporting the The Act on Climate bill last week. It was recommended for approval by the Senate Environmental Committee, with amendments and is now being held for review in the House. We will continue to monitor and can make a difference!

Exciting news!
The Social Justice Team has received board approval for UUCSC to join a coalition of organizations in support of RenewRI, which the team has subsequently adopted for legislative focus this year!

Renew RI is a grassroots organization working to address the interconnected crises of mass unemployment, racial injustice, the coronavirus pandemic and climate change. The work will be done through 3 pieces of legislation referred to collectively as the Rescue Rhode Island Act. In Rhode Island, more than 20 organizations are working together to affect these changes. The link tree portal at RenewRI  is the place to learn about the effort and to easily take action. Please check it out. You will find a link to the Rescue Rhode Island Act, a Legislative Summary, and links that make it easy to take action on current bills and movements.

We will keep you updated on the progress of these bills. Stay tuned.
