“The Power
of Myrrh"
Rev. Denis Paul
This is the tenth day of Christmas, and in the ancient story the three wisemen have not yet arrived bearing their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. What on earth were they thinking, offering things so useless to a newborn and his parents?

Share the Plate Sunday
The first Sunday of each month, we share the plate with a local non-profit organization.
Share the Plate for January and February benefits Kitchen of Hope. The volunteer organization cooks meals for several hundred peole each Friday. Most of these meals are delivered by some of their 113 volunteers. The majority of recipients of these restaurant quality meals are homebound seniors, but unhoused people also benefit from the meals, which are delivered to them in designated parking areas.
In the future Kitchen of Hope, part of St. Frances of Assisi on High Street in Wakefield, will be able to use their new kitchen to offer an additional sit-down dinner on Tuesdays where diners pay what they can for the meal.
The Kitchen of Hope's mission and philosophy of love are in line with our UU values and principles of love. Share the Plate and our Social Justice group believe that working in interfaith collaboration is a benefit for the people we want to serve: senior folk and unhoused people being our focus for January and February.

Winter Sanctuary Art
The months of January and February UUCSC themes are “Practicing Resistance” and “Embodying Resilience.” The sanctuary artwork for these months shows two birds in flight, accompanied by small paintings of Joy. The birds represent our strong, soaring spirits, and the small paintings symbolize threads of Joy, so needed for the fabric of a resilient and meaningful life.

The Committee on Ministry Announces a New Book Discussion Group
Over the past few months, it has become clear that many of us are especially drawn to seeking knowledge in community, with a shared commitment to justice. To ground these conversations, it helps to build a common foundation and shared language. The Dawn of Everything by David Graeber and David Wengrow, paired with an intentional, growth-centered book club, offers one promising way to do this—together. READ MORE
