“The Joy of Generosity”
Rev. Florence Caplow

Recent scientific studies have shown that generosity is a powerful way of cultivating happiness. The Buddha considered generosity one of the "perfections" of human life. What's so great about generosity? This service is the beginning of our annual stewardship campaign, and the theme this year is "Celebration!" We will also be welcoming and introducing new members to our congregation. The Children's and Adult Choirs and the CrUUners will be singing. Children are invited to the beginning of the service.

“The Song Only You Can Sing”
Rev. Florence Caplow and Laura Robinson

What is your song? Each of us has a song, a unique gift to the world that only we can manifest, unrepeatable and shaped like no one else's. This service will invite us all to consider what our song may be and what encourages us to sing it. Laura Robinson will share her journey as a song-writer and will sing one of her songs for us, the UUCUC band will play a song written by Jim Hannum, and Michael Loui will share his love of the piano. We will also be honoring Dr. Cindy Wakeland for her more than five years of service to UUCUC with a special ceremony. Children are invited to the beginning of the service for Cindy's ceremony.
Our annual Call to Stewardship begins Sunday, February 11th! Stop by the Stewardship table in Fellowship Hall, after service, to pick up your stewardship packet, or to speak with our friendly stewardship team.

Diedra Cobb - It was Diedra's birthday on Sunday, February 4th. Diedra came into this world as a queer woman, in order to reestablish and celebrate her beautiful identity.

Julie Laut - It was with great joy that Julie watched her daughter, Celia Barberi, sign the book last Monday and become a member of UUCUC.

Marie McEnroe - Marie is full of gratitude for the outpouring of support for her family as they look after Marie's mother and her sister following her mother's hip replacement last week. The help from UUCUC, her mom's church, healthcare professionals, family, and friends has been much appreciated. Thank you to all for making this time less difficult. Marie's mother and my sister are both doing well.

Katie Madigan - Positive thought for Katie's co-worker and friend who is undergoing tests. They are concerned about her blood, enlarged spleen and swollen lymph nodes around live. She is one of the kindest most loving teachers, Katie has ever met and her preschool friends will miss her greatly!
The Shared Offering recipient of all designated funds and half of the plate cash collection in February is the East Central Illinois Refugee Mutual Assistance Center (ECIRMAC). In response to the growing diversity of our Champaign-Urbana (CU) community comes a heightened responsibility for us all to ensure every family feels welcome as they acclimate to life in our community. Refugees and immigrant families turn to the Refugee Center to help them to navigate the often arduous process of resettlement. In the last fiscal year, ECIRMAC served 1,400 individuals with a variety of services.
Big news! We raised $5,118.55 in January for Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism (BLUU), our Shared Offering recipient. This is $2,218.55 more than our goal of $2,900 ($10 per member of UUCUC). Our contribution will be matched 100% by a national donor to BLUU, for a nearly $10,000 donation. Thank you for your generosity and your commitment to racial justice!
BLMCU Book Drive – February 5 th -28 th . Black Lives Matter of Champaign-Urbana would like people to contribute to their community book drive. See their Facebook page or website for a list of books, drop-off locations, and instructions for making monetary contributions.
Dear Pen Pals, I just wanted to remind you to keep writing those letters. I have had some pals ask why they have not gotten a letter or why their pen pals have not picked up their letters. The program was designed to have each pen pal write to his or her pen pal each week. There are only three weeks left! Many pen pals look forward to receiving letters each week. This program is such a good way to meet new UU friends, so I hope you all write for the next 3 weeks. Watch for news about the "reveal party" currently scheduled for the morning of March 3rd, at 9:00 a.m.

From your Director of Religious Education, Cindy Wakeland
