"Getting REal: A Transformative View of Religious Education"
Michele Grove and Rev. Florence Caplow

Come learn more from our new Interim Director of Religious Education, Michele Townsend Grove! After a national search, we were thrilled when one of the top interim religious educators in the country agreed to come to UUCUC for two years, to guide us through a visioning process about our program. Interim religious education work is a relatively new field, and Michele is a leader in it. She will be sharing some of her life story and she will give us a preview of the interim work we will be doing together.

"Water Service: Our Lives Flow on in Endless Song"
Rev. Florence Caplow and Michele Grove

The UUCUC Water Service is our annual multi-generational Ingathering service at the end of the summer. Please bring a small vial of water from somewhere sacred to you, from far away or nearby. This is a beautiful UU tradition for all ages, honoring the waters of the world and our joining together in community once again. The service will be co-led by our minister, Rev. Caplow, and our new Interim Director of Religious Education, Michele Grove.

We will return to our Sanctuary for this service and for the rest of the Sunday services for the year. Please be aware that the Sanctuary is not air-condiditoned.
UPCOMING MEETINGS & EVENTS

CARE CORE NEWS
Joys and Sorrows

Sharon and Tom Neufer Emswiler - We will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, August 18th! Because of Tom’s health condition, we will have a quiet celebration at home with our family. We have missed worshipping with our UUCUC family over the spring and summer and look forward to being able to join you once again in the late summer/fall. Thanks to the many folks bringing meals to our home. We appreciate it greatly!

Tamara Ducey - Prayers for younger wonderful cousin who was diagnosed with esophageal cancer undergoing treatment Tuesday.

Brian and Sylvia McDermott - All our family and friends helping make Andrew and Qing's wedding memorable, especially the Urbana Fire Department.

Beth Cobb - 42 years ago August, Emil and I were married right here in the still warm and humid Sanctuary.
A memorial service for Marcia Langdon , daughter of former member, Dee Langdon, will be held on Monday, August 20 th at 5:30 pm in the Sanctuary.
Do you need a ride to church? Would you be willing to give a ride to a fellow congregant? Volunteers who could pick up others on the way to church are still needed. We'd like to have a list we could use to find rides for folks who need them. Volunteers would not be committed long-term but would be contacted as needed. Please call Anne Reeser (217) 369-1764, if you would be willing to be let us add your name to this list.
SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE NEWS
August Shared Offering is supporting Equal Justice Initiative

The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) is a nonprofit organization committed to ending illegal convictions and prisoner abuse, ending placement of children in adult prisons, challenging racial and economic injustice, and protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society. The EJI provides legal representation, provides research and educational materials, and produces reports and films on racial injustice. The founder and executive director is Bryan Stevenson, a distinguished lawyer, activist, writer, and teacher. Dr. Stevenson and his staff have won reversals, relief or release for over 125 wrongly condemned prisoners on death row. In April 2018, EJI opened The Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration in Montgomery, Alabama to address the legacy of racial terror in this country. Dr. Stevenson has many awards that honor his work. We urge you to read his book Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption and go to EJI.org to learn more about this organization.
