Mindful Meditation Group - As always, the door will be left slightly open so that late arrivals can enter quietly.

July 9th - Guided practice with audio. Early time: meet & setup at 9:05 am, start at 9:10 am. 

July 16th - Guided practice with audio. Usual time: meet & setup at 9:20 am, start at 9:25 am. 
Our broadly graded RE class this week (7/9) will read the story “The Prince and the Rhinoceros.” The story is about speaking kindly. Our craft will be making friendship bracelets. Remember the worship service on August 20 will be centered on folktales and folk music. If your child would like to participate, please let Cindy Wakeland know.

The Second Round of Teacher Recruitment is starting; there are still opportunities to engage with our children and youth this coming year (2017-2018). Check out the RE table and the Hub table for more information. 

Save the Date: Mark your calendars for September 17, as RE shares with you “Stand by Me”, a potluck lunch and time for families of all kinds to interact in a multigenerational program about racial justice issues. Take a chance to review what has been presented thus far and engage in some new eye opening activities. Watch for more news.

"How to Die in Oregon" Film Screening -  The Death with Dignity Group at our church will show the 2011 Sundance Grand Jury Prize Winning Film, "How to Die in Oregon" this Saturday, July 8, at 9:30 at the Urbana Free Library. In 1994, Oregon made it a legal right for people who are dying to cut short their suffering with a doctor’s aid. That legal right also exists now in the states of California, Washington, Colorado, Vermont, and Montana, throughout Canada, and in several European countries.
 
This film follows several terminally-ill Oregon residents who take advantage of Oregon's aid-in-dying law. It shows why death-with-dignity laws are so important to avoid needlessly suffering through the final, agonizing stages of dying.  Physicians and loved ones should have the legal right to aid suffering people without fearing prosecution. FRIENDLY REMINDER: Reserving space for your event at UUCUC

Please remember when reserving space for a church event to:
  • Submit your request to the Office Administrator (admin@uucuc.org) at least 2 weeks in advance
  • Book: Set up time; Event time; and Clean up time
  • For Fellowship Hall and the Kitchen - If you will need staff assistance (custodial or kitchen helper, i.e.) please fill out a Maintanence/Custodian Request form (found on the bulletin board in the volunteer office & to be placed in Custodian’s mailbox) and/or ask the Office Administrator to notify the Kitchen Helper of the event.
  • Please pay special attention to Sunday events so that staff can arrange to complete their tasks on our busiest day of every week. 

For example: Email to Administrator would request:
  • Newcomer Brunch, Sunday, August 15, put on by Membership Committee
  • Set up time: 8-10 a.m.
  • Event time: 11:15 a.m. - 12 noon
  • Clean up time: 12-1 p.m.
  • Needed assistance via Custodian Request form - please arrange tables…please make additional coffee…etc.
  • Needed assistance from Kitchen Helper - please note that there will be more people than usual on Sunday for a brunch (Kitchen Helper may enlist additional staff - volunteer or paid)

July Shared Offering - Daily Bread Soup Kitchen

Our mission is to feed the hungry of our community regardless of race,religion, or ethnicity. We welcome all volunteers to this service who share an unconditional positive regard for every human being. We provide a safe respectful and inviting environment in an atmosphere of hope and dignity. We serve a hot meal of soup, salad, entree, dessert and beverage to over 200 guests per day, seven days a week. We are entirely volunteer run and depend on donations from individuals, churches, businesses and local grants. Please note July Shared Offering in the memo line of your donation to UUCUC. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
