UPCOMING SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES
10:15 a.m. in Fellowship Hall
Sunday, August 20
Folktales, Lessons and Music
Cindy Wakeland, Director of Religious Education, the children of the summer RE class and friends will be leading worship. They will be sharing folktales, lessons and music. Some stories are personal, some are meditative, some are fun but teach a good lesson. We have a short film about being honest, a true story about a Leader in India, a story pertinent to the events of Charlottesville, and stories from may lands. We have some music written by members and we are even singing the chalice lighting words. Join us!
This will be the last worship service held in Fellowship Hall.

Sunday, August 27
Ingathering Water Service (in Sanctuary)
Led by the Rev. Florence Caplow
The annual UUCUC Ingathering Water Service and will be the first service with our new minister. Please bring a small vial of water from or symbolic of sacred waters to you, whether that place is far away or in your own home. This is a beautiful UU tradition for all ages, honoring the waters of the world and our coming together in community.
Message from Rev. Caplow
I arrived last Friday by train from the West Coast, followed shortly by many boxes carried into my house and into the minister's office on Saturday morning by a hard working crew, led by Johnny Robinson (thank you all!). I started "officially" on Tuesday the 15th. These first few weeks I'll be getting my feet under me, shelving my books, and attending committee meetings. I am also available for conversation or pastoral care. Please don't hesitate to email me at minister@uucuc.org if you'd like the opportunity to get to know each other over coffee or in my office. In general, I will be at the church in the afternoons and evenings, Tuesday through Thursday, but the best way to meet is to arrange beforehand. My first service in August 27th, and I will be offering classes and workshops starting in September. I'm delighted to be here and I look forward to getting to know you all!

Choosing Discomfort: being bold, brave, and loving in the struggle for racial justice
UUA President, Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray, and other UUs stood with counter-protestors in Charlottesville this past weekend. She reflects, “White supremacist groups are being given permission to act violently without repercussions, and this was on display in Charlottesville. They had their guns and shields. We had our songs, our faith, our love. And we had each other.” See Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray’s full remarks.

This week, we share more stories of everyday prejudice submitted at the July 30th service on racial justice. Over 60 stories have been posted on the Racial Justice Initiative bulletin board in Fellowship Hall. Please stop by and add your own or email it directly to Tim Livingston.
