RE SUMMER SUNDAY CLASSES for Children and Youth

Children and youth are invited to the RE Summer Class, June 25-August 27. We will be discussing and sharing stories from the book "Rhinos and Raspberries." We will have fun reading and creating crafts about folktales, fairy tales and parables all relating to the topic of Tolerance. This will be yet another way to keep our children involved in the two-year Racial Justice Initiative. I will prepare everything; read and tell stories (unless someone else is so inclined) and prepare all the craft materials. I will need an assistant to join me and the children and youth each Sunday. If you can assist, please choose a Sunday on the poster at the RE table.
Thank you, Cindy Wakeland

Property Propaganda (from Jerry Carden, chair)
We have a lot of working being done on our property. South Entry sidewalk and courtyard changes to begin soon...
  1. Sidewalk safety - the brick area at our south entrance has sunk and there is a dangerous change in grade at that area. Please avoid walking over the brick, OR be very careful and sure to pick up your feet. The brick is scheduled to be removed in the next few weeks and replaced with concrete at the appropriate level. There is also an area at the edge of the parking lot that has sunk and will be raised after the other concrete work is done.
  2. Birch tree removal - the Birch tree at the south entrance will be coming down. The roots have caused the brick area to heave and will be a problem for the new concrete to be installed. The tree is messy and continues to block the view of the south entry- requiring pruning at least twice a year.
  3. Bike racks - we will be adding three more bike racks as part of the concrete work. If you care to be involved in their selection and planning for their location, please let me know.
You may have heard about the mice - we've had a few mouse sightings the past few weeks. PLEASE do not leave food anywhere in the building unless in completely closed containers. We are working with a pest control company to bait them and also working to close any entry points we can find. A big THANKS to Charlie Wisseman for his work to eliminate entry points around the kitchen cabinets.

February's Shared Offering will support The Public ithe longest-lived alternative paper in C/U. An all-volunteer, "collectively-run, community-oriented publication" running on a shoestring budget, we are local authors providing a forum "for topics underreported and voices underrepresented." Every article promotes social justice by valuing diversity, fighting injustice, and promoting equality. Money from UUCUC's shared offering will entirely towards publication costs, approximately $300/issue. The Public i does not run ads, and all labor (editing, distributing) is volunteer-donated.
