As many of you know a team has been working hard to prioritize how to spend our funds raised from the Raising The Spirits Fundraiser.  Through the generous donations we raised just over $2700, exceeding our goal.  Cris Heffernan and Maya Desai have been meeting with primary users of Fellowship Hall and have received great feedback from folks responding to our request in The Message during the last weeks of ...

Everyone had a blast!  I am talking about the 60 kids...............the ACE kids of Worcester who relished opening shoe boxes of gifts prepared not only by our own individuals from UUCW but also by two of Robin's RE colleagues, members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brookfield and the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church of Chelmsford.  Know who else had a blast?  We did!  One person told me our shoe-box ...

Help Needed! Sunday Morning Worship Team Sign-up!

We need your help.  Not a long-term commitment, just a Sunday along the way this year.  This is a congregation that relishes the many voices and passions of its people.  We are looking for people to participate on Sunday morning's by signing up to:

  • Greet Newcomers
  • Usher
  • Light the Chalice - Provide your own words or words can be provided
  • Read the Welcome - script available
  • Read Opening Words - Provide your own words or words can be provided
  • Introduce the Offering - Provide your own words or words can be provided
  • Help set up the Sanctuary prior to Service - Orientation and training provided.
This is not a lengthy commitment.  If each active member and friend of the congregation signed up for just 2 spots a year, we'd have the entire calendar covered!
LEADERS!  Have a special event or effort that you want to highlight, this is a perfect opportunity to be heard.  While providing any of the services above (sans Sanctuary set up) you can plug your special project.
ALSO, Aaron is looking for a handful of folks who would be interested and willing to be a Worship Leader on Sundays when we have a Guest Speaker.  You will receive a full script of the WA parts of the service ahead of time and will be connected personally with the Guest Speaker to work out any other details.  Training is also provided as desired.  Contact Aaron directly if you are willing to be a Worship Leader.

HERE is the link to sign up to be part of a Sunday morning Worship Team this year. Scroll to the desired date, and sign up on the element you'd like to do.  You will receive a confirmation email and a reminder email prior to your scheduled day(s).
Thanks you for all you do!!

 Touchstones For January 8 - 14
2018-2019 Touchstone Ministry Theme "Let Your Life Speak"
Parker Palmer wrote, "Before you tell your life what you intend to do with it, listen for what it intends to do with you. Before you tell your life what truths and values you have decided to live up to, let your life tell you what truths you embody, what values you represent." These themes encourage listening to your life as a way of shaping your days and guiding your journey.
This year's monthly themes, starting in September, are: vocation, formation, gratitude, peace, grace, surrender/letting go, truth, salvation/wholeness, mystery, transcendence, freedom and responsibility, and prayer.
Watch for upcoming articles in this newsletter and other weekly communications that will explore these themes in depth.

January Theme - Grace

January 8: "When life doesn't meet your expectations, it is important to take it with grace." ~ Patricia Briggs
January 9: "Grace doesn't depend on suffering to exist, but where there is suffering you will find grace in many facets and colors." ~ W. Paul Young
January 10: "The winds of grace are always blowing; it is for us to raise our sails." ~ Ramakrishna
January 11: "If grace is so wonderful, why do we have such difficulty recognizing and accepting it? Maybe it's because grace is not gentle or made-to-order. It often comes disguised as loss, or failure, or unwelcome change." ~ Kathleen Norris
January 12: "My father was very sure about certain matters pertaining to the universe. To him all good things-trout as well as eternal salvation-come by grace and grace comes by art and art does not come easy." ~ Norman Maclean
January 13: "Grace is the light or electricity or juice or breeze that takes you from that isolated place and puts you with others who are as startled and embarrassed and eventually grateful as you are to be there." ~ Anne Lamott
January 14: "Life is grace. Sleep is forgiveness. The night absolves. Darkness wipes the slate clean, not spotless to be sure, but clean enough for another day's chalking." ~ Frederick Buechner
Rev. Aaron Payson
Ongoing Meetings
Open to anyone interested in meditation, the group meets weekly and you can attend as available. We meditate for 30 minutes and then read from a meditation book and discuss the practice and how to integrate it into our lives. Occasionally we will listen to a talk from a meditation teacher and discuss as well. If you have questions contact Wendy O'Leary.
