It's time for Ferry Beach Registration!!  Ferry Beach is September 13-15, 2019.  Many of us begin the church year with a weekend of retreat, reunion, and reflection at Ferry Beach in Saco, Maine (http://www.ferrybeach.org).  We join together with friends from First Unitarian Church for beach walks, volleyball, time to rest, a talent show, and even a...

As we begin to plan for our Summer Services, which run from the June 23 through the Labor Day Weekend, this theme provides us a great focus for this effort.  Our informal Summer Sunday Services take place in the lounge and invite a time for deep sharing about ideas, issues and experiences which ...

Our Yard Sale is coming up soon, June 1st. We would love to sell some small home baked goodies, like cookies, muffins or brownies to feed our shoppers so they will stay longer and buy more! If you would be willing to bake something, please contact Ruth Silver. Thank  you!

Help Needed! Sunday Morning Worship Team Sign-up!

We need your help.  Not a long-term commitment, just a Sunday along the way this year.  This is a congregation that relishes the many voices and passions of its people.  We are looking for people to participate on Sunday morning's by signing up to:

  • Greet Newcomers
  • Usher
  • Light the Chalice - Provide your own words or words can be provided
  • Read the Welcome - script available
  • Read Opening Words - Provide your own words or words can be provided
  • Introduce the Offering - Provide your own words or words can be provided
  • Help set up the Sanctuary prior to Service - Orientation and training provided.
This is not a lengthy commitment.  If each active member and friend of the congregation signed up for just 2 spots a year, we'd have the entire calendar covered!

LEADERS!  Have a special event or effort that you want to highlight, this is a perfect opportunity to be heard.  While providing any of the services above (sans Sanctuary set up) you can plug your special project.

ALSO, Aaron is looking for a handful of folks who would be interested and willing to be a Worship Leader on Sundays when we have a Guest Speaker.  You will receive a full script of the WA parts of the service ahead of time and will be connected personally with the Guest Speaker to work out any other details.  Training is also provided as desired.  Contact Aaron directly if you are willing to be a Worship Leader.

HERE is the link to sign up to be part of a Sunday morning Worship Team this year. Scroll to the desired date, and sign up on the element you'd like to do.  You will receive a confirmation email and a reminder email prior to your scheduled day(s).

Thanks you for all you do!!

 Touchstones For May 21 - 27
2018-2019 Touchstone Ministry Theme "Let Your Life Speak"

Parker Palmer wrote, "Before you tell your life what you intend to do with it, listen for what it intends to do with you. Before you tell your life what truths and values you have decided to live up to, let your life tell you what truths you embody, what values you represent." These themes encourage listening to your life as a way of shaping your days and guiding your journey.

This year's monthly themes, starting in September, are: vocation, formation, gratitude, peace, grace, surrender/letting go, truth, salvation/wholeness, mystery, transcendence, freedom and responsibility, and prayer.

Watch for upcoming articles in this newsletter and other weekly communications that will explore these themes in depth.

May Theme - Mystery

May 21: "We never know what is going to happen, do we? Life is always throwing us this way and that. That's where the adventure is. Not knowing where you'll end up or how you'll fare. It's all a mystery, and when we say any different, we're just lying to ourselves. Tell me, when have you felt most alive?" ~ Eowyn Ivey

May 22: "The mystery was gone but the amazement was just starting." Andy Warhol

May 23: "Each time dawn appears, the mystery is there in its entirety." ~ Rene Daumal

May 24: "Our ignorance can be divided into problems and mysteries. When we face a problem, we may not know its solution, but we have insight, increasing knowledge, and an inkling of what we are looking for. When we face a mystery, however, we can only stare in wonder and bewilderment, not knowing what an explanation would even look like." ~ Noam Chomsky

May 25: "Every life is complicated, every mind a kingdom of unmapped mysteries." ~ Dean Koontz

May 26: "Not how the world is, but that it is, is the mystery." ~ Ludwig Wittgenstein

May 27: "The job of the artist is always to deepen the mystery." ~  Francis Bacon
