Dear Friends, Thanks to you all for an amazingly successful Raising The Spirits night. We raised over $2500 and now comes the challenge of spending that money for Fellowship Hall beautification. We need your input. A team is forming to figure out WHAT TO DO. We will be meeting with the folks who use the room (Aaron, Robin, Food Pantry Crew, regular users/renters of the space), but in the interest...

Calling all Cooks! Last Monday, I attended the community dinner put on by the LGBT Asylum Task Force at Hadwen Park Congregational Church. If you've ever been to Durgin Park in Boston, that was the atmosphere there! We sat at long communal tables, interacting with a variety of people and having interesting conversations. Plentiful food was served by one of the sponsoring churches, after which a program was presented with...

Help Needed! Sunday Morning Worship Team Sign-up!

We need your help.  Not a long-term commitment, just a Sunday along the way this year.  This is a congregation that relishes the many voices and passions of its people.  We are looking for people to participate on Sunday morning's by signing up to:

  • Greet Newcomers
  • Usher
  • Light the Chalice - Provide your own words or words can be provided
  • Read the Welcome - script available
  • Read Opening Words - Provide your own words or words can be provided
  • Introduce the Offering - Provide your own words or words can be provided
  • Help set up the Sanctuary prior to Service - Orientation and training provided.
This is not a lengthy commitment.  If each active member and friend of the congregation signed up for just 2 spots a year, we'd have the entire calendar covered!

LEADERS!  Have a special event or effort that you want to highlight, this is a perfect opportunity to be heard.  While providing any of the services above (sans Sanctuary set up) you can plug your special project.

ALSO, Aaron is looking for a handful of folks who would be interested and willing to be a Worship Leader on Sundays when we have a Guest Speaker.  You will receive a full script of the WA parts of the service ahead of time and will be connected personally with the Guest Speaker to work out any other details.  Training is also provided as desired.  Contact Aaron directly if you are willing to be a Worship Leader.

HERE is the link to sign up to be part of a Sunday morning Worship Team this year. Scroll to the desired date, and sign up on the element you'd like to do.  You will receive a confirmation email and a reminder email prior to your scheduled day(s).

Thanks you for all you do!!

 Touchstones For November 27 - December 3
2018-2019 Touchstone Ministry Theme "Let Your Life Speak"

Parker Palmer wrote, "Before you tell your life what you intend to do with it, listen for what it intends to do with you. Before you tell your life what truths and values you have decided to live up to, let your life tell you what truths you embody, what values you represent." These themes encourage listening to your life as a way of shaping your days and guiding your journey.

This year's monthly themes, starting in September, are: vocation, formation, gratitude, peace, grace, surrender/letting go, truth, salvation/wholeness, mystery, transcendence, freedom and responsibility, and prayer.

Watch for upcoming articles in this newsletter and other weekly communications that will explore these themes in depth.

November Theme - Gratitude
December Theme - Peace

November 27: "The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings." ~ Eric Hoffer

November 28: "Gratitude is when memory is stored in the heart and not in the mind." ~ Lionel Hampton

November 29: "We're a nation hungry for more joy: Because we're starving from a lack of gratitude." ~ Brené Brown

November 30: "Gratitude is the greatest prayer. Thank you is the greatest mantra." ~ Paramahamsa Nithyananda

Bonus Day:
"The most fortunate are those who have a wonderful capacity to appreciate again and again, freshly and naively, the basic goods of life, with awe, pleasure, wonder and even ecstasy." ~ Abraham Maslow

December 1: "It is my conviction that there is no way to peace-peace is the way." ~ Thích Nhất Hạnh

December 2: "Without inner peace, outer peace is impossible. Only by creating peace within our own mind and helping others to do the same can we hope to achieve peace in this world." ~ Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

December 3: "You cannot find peace by avoiding life." ~ Virginia Woolf

Rev. Aaron Payson

Ongoing Meetings

Join us for our seasonal "Lunch with the Minister"  holiday buffet lunch on December 5 at noon. Bring your favorite food to share...salad, veggie, or dessert. Meatballs, breads, and drinks will be provided.  Our lunch is a great way to get into the holiday spirit with church friends new and old.

Open to anyone interested in meditation, the group meets weekly and you can attend as available. We meditate for 30 minutes and then read from a meditation book and discuss the practice and how to integrate it into our lives. Occasionally we will listen to a talk from a meditation teacher and discuss as well. If you have questions contact Wendy O'Leary.
