Sunday, February 21st 11am Zoom Service: "How Long 'til Black Future Month?" N.K. Jemisin, a black female who happens to be one my favorite sci-fi authors, has written a book of short stories by this name, and it poses a great question. An Op Ed by Stacey Abrams gives us a clue as to when, or if, the future might happen for people of color, for all of us. Join us Sunday to explore what our future might be like. With Rev. Jim Parrish

Sunday, 02/21/2021, 10am - Adult RE 10am Discussion Group (via Zoom)!
Topic this Sunday: "How to be a better neighbor to homeless people." Our first two UU principles speak to: 1) the inherent worth and dignity of every person; and 2) justice, equity and compassion in human relations. Continuing our discussion from last week regarding the problem of chronic homelessness, how do we apply these principles to those in our community who are struggling with the complex issues that contribute to homelessness. We hope you'll join us as we consider how we look with compassion and through a non-judgmental lens on people who are homeless. We'll use the resources below to inform our conversation.

Update from me (Fawn, your Administrator): My fall on icy steps last week resulted in a very badly broken wrist/arm, and I will be undergoing surgery this coming Wednesday to put this humpty-dumpty back together again. You can be assured that I will be working around this unfortunate situation as possible, but please have patience. Thanks for the care and concern you've shown, and a special shout out to Mike McMullin for rescuing me and my sister from our snow trappings and for getting me to my appointment with the Ortho Surgeon yesterday!
We want to know how you are doing, beloved UUFF Community! If you have a joy or concern on your heart, please fill out and submit this ONLINE JOYS AND CONCERNS FORM. You will be able to select who you would like to hear back from, if anyone, as well as your preferred contact method and whether or not the joy/concern/need is something that may be shared with the congregation.

Our Children’s Religious Exploration class for ages 5-11 is using the Soul Matters curriculum, which you can learn more about HERE. This month we’re exploring the many ways our UU faith invites us to become “A People of Beloved Community.” Parents can find activities and discussion topics in this email, and children are invited to take part in every-other-week zoom meetups, the next of which will be THURSDAY, February 11th, from 7 to 7:30pm. Click HERE to participate!
This week our focus is on beloved community as a place where love grows beyond boundaries. Our faith is an expansive one. Historically, we UU’s disagreed with those who believed that only Jesus was the way to get to heaven and instead we asserted that all people have goodness in them and God would ensure that all humanity was welcomed into God’s love. That’s why we have “Universalism” in our name, Unitarian Universalists. The Universalists believed in “universal salvation” or universal goodness. This call of universalism was a call to continually expand our love to wider and wider circles until all of humanity (and the natural world) is embraced. So, what’s one of the ways our faith guides us into becoming a people of Beloved Community? It tells us to “grow your love beyond boundaries!”
