UUFF eNews - Week of January 8, 2025

Sunday 11am Service

Sunday, January 12th, 11am: "Why did Jesus, Moses, Buddha, and Mohammad Cross the Road?" For centuries, the simple teachings of Jesus have been poisoned by the dogma that Christianity is the only true religion and only those who adhere to a certain set of beliefs will be "saved." This, in part, helps us understand why so many former Christians have fled the Church and continue to do so. It also reveals the danger of the current white "Christian Nationalist" movement. How different history might have been if these prophetic figures could have sat down and had a meal and a conversation together! Rev. John Johnson will be our speaker. Join us!

You can attend service in person at the fellowship building or view it remotely online via Facebook Live Stream. To attend live via Facebook, wait until 11am Central Standard Time (CST) and go to: https://www.facebook.com/share/19q987Z1Ub/and click on "Watch Live Video. A Facebook account is not required for viewing.

'Tis the Season for Inclement Weather, so please keep an eye out for closure postings. In the case of UUFF Inclement Weather closures, you can look for a special email, and check out our Facebook and Website pages for alerts as well. We will get the information posted as soon as possible after a decision is made! IMPORTANT REMINDER: Even if we are open, determining the safety of your individual travels to/from the fellowship is up to you. Please stay safe above all else.

10am Mindful Discussions Group for Adults - Downstairs Common Area

Topic this Sunday: "The Environmental Impacts of Consumerism." This week we will discuss the documentary Buy Now: The Shopping Conspiracy which raises awareness of not only the environmental impact of excess shopping, but also the levels of manipulation going on behind the scenes that companies use to keep us hooked on wanting (and needing) more.  One-click buying takes away time for critical thinking while reducing the lifespan of products makes it near impossible to fix purchases rather than replace them. Then there's "greenwashing" that convinces us that companies are being environmentally responsible, rather than dumping and destroying great quantities of surplus products and turning a blind eye to hazardous waste. The documentary is available on Netflix. Please join us to learn more and discuss this sobering issue.

10am Children's and Youth Religious Exploration Classes

We are excited to welcome children and youth ages 5+ to participate in Religious Exploration at UUFF!

UUFF Welcomes a New Member!

Robin Veenhuis (pictured) has been a part of our community for a while now, and we are thrilled to announce that she has made her membership official! Please give Robin a warm welcome next time you see her!

A bit about Robin: Robin Veenhuis has been living in NWA since 2008. She and her family moved here from Los Angeles to be closer to her father and sister who had previously moved to the area from California. In Los Angeles, Robin worked as a legal assistant and also dabbled in entertainment activities such as interviewing actors who were launching a new film. She earned two undergraduate degrees -- one in theater arts and the other in psychology. Here in NWA, she works as a legal assistant in estate planning and is about to be an empty nester. Robin grew up in a very conservative home with three siblings, attending a nondenominational Christian church. Later, she found herself drawn to other pursuits of the soul, which has led her to finding a home at UUFF. Robin enjoys decorating and gardening, as well as her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Finn.
