UUFF's 11am Service This Sunday (online AND in-person)
|
|
Sunday, May 15th, 11am Service (Online AND In-Person!): "UUFF's Flower Communion Service & Choir Sunday!" This Fellowship is a brilliant garden of diverse flowers (y'all)! Bring a flower to service, take home a different flower, and experience our annual flower communion!
We are actively seeking to hire paid nursery staff (if you know anyone interested, please refer them to Fawn at uuff.ar@gmail.com for more details), but for now, availability of nursery care on any given Sunday is based entirely on volunteers, so if you are the parent of a child who might need nursery care AND you are interested in being part of a rotation of volunteers to staff the nursery, please SIGN UP for a Nursery Volunteer slot HERE.
We encourage all who are able to park in the U of A lot just up Oakland, so that our closer spots are available for those who need a shorter and easier walk to the building. THANKS.

Adult Religious Exploration Discussion Group - held Sundays at 10am downstairs in the common room at UUFF!
This Sunday, 05/15/2022: "Immigration Law and Resettlement Programs." Immigration law is a huge and complex topic. This week we will take on a sliver of that. Rebecca Bryant, UUFF Member and DOJ-certified Immigration Specialist, will review immigration law as it relates to refugees, asylees, and the like. She will cover the Afghan resettlement program and related immigration issues in detail. She will also describe Ukranian resettlement and immigration issues.
Please note that we will offer a remote Zoom participation option for this session, in addition to in-person attendance. This is a new link. To join us via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83113550560
UNITING FOR UKRAINE is a new program where individuals in the US can help Ukranians who want to come to the US either permanently or temporarily: https://www.dhs.gov/ukraine
If you have an extra room in your home and would like to sponsor a Ukranian woman with a child or two, UUFF Member Rebecca Bryant is a refugee resettlement specialist and would be delighted to help with the initial paperwork and later resettlement should you get approval. The criteria for helping in this effort is that you have the physical space to house a small family or the financial resources to pay for a rental, until one of the refugee family members can get a job (yes, they will be eligible to work). If you have questions, email Rebecca at rbryant@dolr.org

Children ages 5 to 11 are invited to join Children's Religious Exploration, which meets every Sunday from 10 to 11 downstairs.
We are using the Soul Matters curriculum, which you can learn more about here.
The theme of the month is Nurturing Beauty. As UU’s, our 7th Principle and our 6th Source remind us that we are interconnected to nature and the wider world. This week we celebrate that connection and honor the many sensory ways we take in the beauty around us.

Youth ages 11 to 18 are invited to join Youth Religious Exploration, which meets every Sunday from 10 to 11 downstairs.
Please contact Leanda Gavin (lmshelby@gmail.com) with questions or to register your youth for YRE.

CRE and YRE are so happy to be back together meeting in person! We are also in need of assistant volunteers for the remaining several Sundays, up until we break for the summer. CRE and YRE meet downstairs at UUFF at 10:00am before service.
Classes start at 10am and wrap up at about 10:50am so we can head upstairs for the 11am worship service. CRE and YRE are in separate classrooms, so we need 2 volunteers - one for each class - per Sunday. We have lots of fun, so please sign up for a Sunday (or Sundays) below if you are interested in being a part of it!
Please CLICK HERE to sign up to help Stephanie with CRE or Leanda with YRE on a particular Sunday or Sundays this Spring.

Justice Spotlight - Week of May 11, 2022
|
|
Lots of justice issues are erupting before our very eyes! Number one on the Team’s list is usually the future of life on our planet, but we’ll take a break from that and comment on the current uproar over whether women (and their partners) get to have a say on whether or not they carry a pregnancy to its full term. No one’s first choice of birth control is abortion. That choice is usually forced by the failure of one’s good judgement or of one’s birth control. However, in the case that a woman is raped or impregnated by incest, UU’s national position is that the woman herself should decide what to do about carrying the baby to full term and decisions beyond that: whether to keep and raise the baby herself.
We urge each of you to download and install the “5 Calls” application from the Apple store (or Google Play store) on your phones. When you sign into it, it will then know you are from Arkansas, and when you activate it to call as a text message through the app, it will automatically call your two senators and representative (and governor, if you wish). Democrats are proposing a law which secures the right to abortion, but the vote may have already happened on the Women’s Health Protection Act. Regardless, if it is in line with your beliefs and values, please ask that Cotton and Boozman vote in favor or women’s rights this week. If this doesn’t pass, the Supreme Court will reverse the Roe v. Wade decision, undoing 50 years of progress, and women in the US will have to hunt for access to abortion care on a state by state basis. Arkansas has a trigger law in place when the Court decides on the Mississippi case this summer, which will make abortion illegal at any time in the pregnancy.
If you want to participate more broadly in person, there are two events planned for peaceful demonstrations: The first will be held this Friday night (5/13) at 6pm, at the Washington County Courthouse, where we will stand along College Ave. to demonstrate our opinions. Please bring your own signs. The second event is on Saturday (5/14) at 6pm, when we will gather at the Fayetteville square for a march to the Court House. Justice Team will be looking for you at both events. We will gather at the Bank of Fayetteville corner of the square on Saturday.
Just a reminder for those of us who are Democrats that the Democratic Primary will have early voting starting this week up until May 24th. Vote at the Court House unless you prefer a closer venue, which you can find on the Wash. Co. Clerk’s website.
The Native Plant Sale needs to be postponed until the weekend of May 21st and 22nd, so that the Master Naturalists can better prepare for distribution. If you ordered plants, please call Marquette Bruce (# below) and work out a pick-up time with her for the 21st or 22nd.
Want to get involved or have questions about Justice at UUFF? All are welcome! Come to a meeting and/or contact Justice Team Co-Leads, Dina Nash (501-554-2200) or Marquette Bruce (512-965-2122).
