Sunday 11am Service

Sunday, May 31st, 11am: "Blessing of the Animals Action Sunday!" Our pets are a part of our heart family, AND science tells us that animal companions are good for our heart and health in several ways. They bless us with their presence in our lives. Today we bless them too. Join Brooke Eldredge and Rev. Renée, as well as Denise Mulliken from House of Little Dogs, for this very special service. Today we will Share the Plate with House of Little Dogs! LEARN MORE HERE!

Topic this Sunday: "The Six Strings of Life." It's graduation season, an exciting time for many families that includes numerous time-honored traditions. One such tradition is the commencement speech. Some commencement addresses are memorable and quickly go viral while others are lackluster and easily forgotten. What makes a good commencement address? Recently, country music star Eric Church gave a highly acclaimed speech to the graduates at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill that many have called one of the best they had ever heard. Using his guitar as a central metaphor, he described the "six strings of life." We hope you'll join us as we watch the address and consider the themes he raises.

We are excited to welcome children and youth ages 5+ to participate in Religious Exploration at UUFF! Classrooms are downstairs and have signs to direct participants.

UUFF Welcomes New Members!

Thomas Griffin

Susanne Johnson

Kathy Leonard: I was born in Kansas to a loving family. Ralph and I moved to Arkansas with a dream of living in the country. I love nature, animals, reading, and campfires. I am a retired nurse and worked in hospice for many years. I am hoping to become more of an activist for our democracy , our community and for our spiritual goals.

Megan McLemore: I moved here fairly recently and am really enjoying being part of the UUFF community. I’m a spiritual person who values social justice and finds the divine all around me, including in our beautiful planet, kind people, art and music, and a good sense of humor.

Margi Grund: Raised on a small farm in rural Indiana, I spent my childhood roaming the fields and woodlands, observing nature up close. Now retired, I indulge my passions for birdwatching, native plants, and creative endeavors. I am grateful for the UUFF's welcoming embrace and look forward to further exploration, personal growth, and connection.

Frank Grund: I was born in 1946 in war-torn Czechoslovakia. It took me 35 years to cross the border to the West safely. The move brought change; it was the first open door to determining my own life. On the other hand, I was charged by the court in absentia as a felon and sentenced to 30 months in jail for staying abroad without permission. I had to go through the immigration process three times, first to Germany, then to Canada, and finally to the US in 1992. Becoming a naturalized US citizen brought security and a search for an open-minded citizen society, which I have finally found at the UUFF. Thank you for accepting a Resident Alien.

CEO (Cooperative Emergency Outreach) in dire need of supplies for the food pantry.

UUFF has been a member of CEO (Cooperative Emergency Outreach) for several years. CEO has been serving Washington County since 1989. It is a group of churches that assists members of our community facing financial emergencies. CEO helps clients with food, hygiene supplies, clothing vouchers, utility bills, rent, and prescription vouchers.

Today's economy has been especially challenging. In April alone, CEO assisted 594 clients; more than 80% of those clients received food.

Current CEO food pantry needs:

  • shampoo
  • small sized dish soap
  • toothpaste
  • toilet paper
  • 10-20 ounce boxes of cereal
  • canned carrots
  • canned mixed vegetables
  • canned peas

Please drop off donations in the black wheeled cart labeled "CEO" in the UUFF lobby.

Paid Research Opportunity

We are researchers in the School of Psychology at the University of Nottingham and we would love to talk with you and your child aged between 4 to 13 years. We are interested in how families navigate what it means to be spiritual when they do not regularly practice a religion. We will ask your child questions like 'What is a good person like?' and 'Have you ever experienced a moment of awe, when you have thought Wow!' We are sure you will enjoy hearing your child's answers. An inconvenience allowance will be paid in the form of Amazon Gift Cards for completion of both the adult and child surveys.

Please contact joanna.stephens4@nottingham.ac.uk to be involved.
