UUFF eNews - Week of September 12, 2018
This Week at UUFF
Sunday, 9/16, 11am Service: “When Are We Not Unitarian Universalists?” Led by Rev. Jim Parrish. UUFF Choir will sing, directed by Renée Janski!

10am Sunday Adult Religious Education (ARE):
ARE Discussion Group: Meets Downstairs. Join us to discuss this week's topic: "Thoughts from Sam Harris." Sam Harris, a secular humanist and philosopher, says people must embrace rationalism or they will never overcome their differences. We'll discuss his thoughts based on this interview:  http://www.beliefnet.com/faiths/secular-philosophies/why-religion-must-end-interview-with-sam-harris.aspx

Meditation will be held at 10:00, followed by a short reading and discussion between 10:30 -
10:45. It doesnʼt matter what type of meditation you do, or if you have ever meditated before, you
are welcome to come meditate in the UUFF Annex building (across Storer from UUFF in the west-
nearest Storer-side of the annex). ALL ARE WELCOME. Enter through the front door.

10am RE for kids 5+ continues today! Each child should be registered (talk to Stephanie Bentley if you have not already done so) and all are invited to meet in room 2 downstairs at 10am for Religious Exploration, before rejoining adults for the 11 o’clock service.

Sunday Nursery Services available 9:45 am – 12:15 pm
We will have a memorial celebration of the life of Nancy McCartney on Saturday, September 22nd, beginning at 11am at UUFF, and you are invited to help honor her by signing up to bring a dish and/or help with various event duties. Susan Takigiku has been kind enough to set up a online sign-up for food/help for the event. Coming of Age at UUFF
Coming of Age is a program of self-discovery, faith identity building, and community commitment for youth ages 12 to 14 (rising 7th grade to 9th grade, roughly).

It’s a year-long program, with two trips--one in the fall, one in the spring; an overnight retreat at church; biweekly Sunday meetings at church, before service; and a culminating service led by the youth themselves in May.
Coming of Age is a cornerstone of UU religious education programming, and we’re excited to be able to offer it!

If you’re interested, please call/text Teresa at 479-684-9210.

The Coming of Age Kick-Off Meeting will be held in the UUFF Sanctuary THIS Sunday, September 16th, at 12:30pm.

Annex Car-Port
Storage Area CLEAN-UP!
Essential items that are infrequently used for UUFF purposes will be put into long-term storage at the East Annex car-port area. The area at the West Annex (nearest Storer) will become a garden shed and mini-workshop, holding tools and items that are in frequent use for our football parking program.
  • Members who have an interest in stored items should clearly label items with (1) member name, (2) contact info, and (3) a brief description of item's UUFF-purpose (ex: Web of Life services)
  • We will begin disposing of unlabeled items after the end of September. Any personal items should be removed immediately.
If you have any questions, please contact Jeff Barnes or UUFF Office. Thanks.

Our Whole Lives for adults is offered through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of the University of Arkansas! If you think there is little left to learn about sexuality as an adult, think again. With the emergence of the #MeToo movement, increasingly open expressions of gender identity and sexual orientation, and new information about sexually transmitted infections, it is not only prudent, but imperative, that adults stay informed and knowledgeable.

Lydia Nelson and Theresa Parrish will facilitate the class over two Saturdays: September 15 and 29, from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM at Butterfield Trail Village.
