APRIL 2025

April 6

"The Gospel According to Diana Ross: Love, Light, and Liberation"

Clint Tawes

Diana Ross isn’t just a music icon—she’s a testament to resilience, authenticity, and love. This sermon explores the wisdom in her life and lyrics and what they teach us about embracing our true selves and overcoming obstacles. (And yes, I know this would’ve been perfect for Women’s History Month—but I didn’t think of it in time. Luckily, Diana deserves to be celebrated year-round! So wear your dancing shoes—there’ll be plenty of great music to keep us moving!)

April 13

"Good Bye, Farewell and Amen"

Randy Blasch

Randy will look back at the past two years and how they changed his life.

April 20

"Easter Service and Flower Ceremony"

Rev. Jane Page and Mortimer MacArthur

Bring flowers or greenery to share during our Time for All Ages. Mortimer MacArthur will bring a message titled "Defying Gravity: Rising out of Shame," followed by the choir singing an a capella arrangement of an Easter hymn. Plus, the children will enjoy an awesome Easter Egg Hunt. Many wear hats to this service to celebrate. Visitors are welcome!

Springtime Easter Egg Hunt will take place concurrent with the service on Sunday, April 20th. Please collect a brown paper bag with empty plastic eggs at UUFS and bring them back with surprises inside. Please make sure all edible surprises are prepackaged.

Thank you!

Ecology Walk at Ohoopee Dunes Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Swainsboro

Are you interested in exploring and learning about the plants, animals, and ecosystems around you?

On Saturday, April 5th, join us in an Ecology Walk at Ohoopee Dunes Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Swainsboro. Ohoopee Dunes WMA includes the longest riverine dune system in Georgia as well as protected species including the gopher tortoise, the striped newt, pitcher plants, and sandhill rosemary. Join in to learn about native plants, animals, and ecosystems in southeastern Georgia, as well as methods and strategies used to restore and protect them. We will also discuss the history of the land and the historical role of fire in maintaining our ecosystems, as well as how conservation advocates use this knowledge to restore biodiversity and to reestablish resilient ecosystems.

We will meet at the entrance to the Ohoopee Dunes WMA interpretive hiking trail at 10am.

Need a ride to Medical Appointment? Georgia Southern’s Trusted Rider Program offers transportation services to older adults, assisting them in reaching their non-emergency medical appointments and back home after the completion of their visit. The program is run by student volunteers who have undergone background checks and training to ensure they provide the best possible service to the clients involved.

Chiamaka Ogwara is the program’s community liaison and reached out to raise awareness about the program with hopes to get referrals from older adults who may be interested in the program or may have the need for it.
