Our Mission Statement

As a welcoming congregation, we work and worship together to become people of open minds, loving hearts, and helping hands.

We honor the transformative power of love in our individual lives and broader communities.

"Something to Talk About"

Clint Tawes

In a world where compassion is called radical and justice is labeled controversial, we’re going to be talked about no matter what—so why not make it count? This sermon invites us to love boldly, live our values out loud, or give the world something worth talking about.

Relationship Changes

Greetings Beloveds!

This will be my last newsletter article as your minister. I need to share with you some guidelines for our relationship beginning July 1st.

In order to give our lay leadership, the new minister and our congregation time for a good transition, please try to follow these (and I will try my best as well).

  1. For the 2025-2026 program year, I will not be attending any church sponsored activities. I will still be living in Statesboro half time, so I will undoubtedly still run into you at other places in town – but it won’t be at church. Yes, we can speak and enjoy one another’s company at these events, but as friends, not as a minister and congregant.
  2. I will remain on social media, but for the 2025-2026 program year will not be active on groups or sites connected to the congregation. Similarly, we can remain friends on social media.
  3. Your new minister and I will have a formal covenant of how I can be involved or not in some unusual situations, like memorial services. If you wish for me to be involved, share this with your new minister and we will figure out what will be best. Similarly, if you or a loved one is severely ill and you feel the need for me to provide some pastoral care, contact your minister. For most pastoral care needs, please call on one of our pastoral care associates or your new minister.

Now it is true that you have provided me with Minister Emerita status, and I can certainly be more involved in that capacity and as a member of this congregation after a period of transition. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity of serving as your minister for the last 19 years. I will always be grateful.

Love,

Jane

Need a ride to Medical Appointment? Georgia Southern’s Trusted Rider Program offers transportation services to older adults, assisting them in reaching their non-emergency medical appointments and back home after the completion of their visit. The program is run by student volunteers who have undergone background checks and training to ensure they provide the best possible service to the clients involved.

Chiamaka Ogwara is the program’s community liaison and reached out to raise awareness about the program with hopes to get referrals from older adults who may be interested in the program or may have the need for it.

If you have any questions of would like to learn more about the program, contact them via phone at: 912-478-0712 (office phone) and email co06587-sw@georgiasouthern.edu
