Our Mission Statement

As a welcoming congregation, we work and worship together to become people of open minds, loving hearts, and helping hands.

We honor the transformative power of love in our individual lives and broader communities.

MARCH 2025

March 2

"Jesus Loves Me. This I Know."

Clint Tawes

Many of us learned the song “Jesus Loves Me” as children, but its simple message holds a deeper truth: love is something we are meant to know, not just hope for. Jesus modeled a love that embraced others fully—and that includes ourselves. In this sermon, we’ll reflect on what it means to truly believe we are worthy of love, just as we are.

March 9

"The Weeping Time"

Intern Minister Randy Blasch

In 1859 an auction took place in Savannah to satisfy a series of debts. We will look at the history and the continuing legacy of this sale of 436 pieces of "property."

March 16

"Rachel Carson and Greta Thunberg: Dynamic Forces of Environmentalism"

UUCG Member Carolyn Wallace

Carolyn Wallace, a member of UUCG in Brunswick, will share the unique contributions of these two women to our understanding of ecology, environmental health, and the dire consequences of human actions on the earth. Vignettes of their lives and work will be shared, along with some information for contributing to the cause.

March 23

"Women's History Month"

Rev. Jane Page

Rev. Jane continues her use of 60's and 70's songs for inspiration. " I Wish I Knew How it Would Feel to be Free": An Exploration of the Yearnings and Actions of Three UU Women.

March 30

"Journey to Islam"

Christina Salhi

Join us this Sunday and hear our special guest, Christina Salhi, Lecturer of Spanish at Georgia Southern. She will share her spiritual journey to Islam from her adolescence in the 1990's to today.

What Can We Do?

by Rev. Jane

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been feeling overwhelmed by what’s happening in our nation, in our world, and in our own communities and neighborhoods. Add to that that many of us have had grief over the loss of loved ones, illnesses, and other difficulties. At times, we feel helpless. But we are not. We can take lessons from many who have faced difficulties for generations and learn how to persevere. I’ve read lots of articles and posts about all of this, of course. But sometimes, it’s helpful to have something which is a simplistic reminder that we can digest. One of my UU colleagues, Rev. Kate Wilkinson, shared a strategy that uses SIX R’s (Remove, Recalibrate, Rest, Refill, Reconnect, and Resist) as reminders of how we can take care of ourselves and others in times like these. She has provided a visual with examples of activities that I’m going to share with you. I’ve saved mine to my phone and printed it out to post where I will see it often. Perhaps you will find it helpful as we navigate these difficult times. Of course, in the area of reconnecting – I would also suggest that we all make every effort to come to church services and other church activities. These have been so nourishing for me. Being with you folks always gives my heart a lift.

We have lots of good services and activities planned for March. Read this newsletter to find out. Now here’s that helpful graphic.

With LOVE at the center – Always!

UUFS Ministerial Search Team

The Ministerial Search Team, chaired by Abby, meets regularly via Zoom. We appreciate your input about your hopes in our new minister.  Thank you for contributing your ideas on the wall last month.

Need a ride to Medical Appointment? Georgia Southern’s Trusted Rider Program offers transportation services to older adults, assisting them in reaching their non-emergency medical appointments and back home after the completion of their visit. The program is run by student volunteers who have undergone background checks and training to ensure they provide the best possible service to the clients involved.

Chiamaka Ogwara is the program’s community liaison and reached out to raise awareness about the program with hopes to get referrals from older adults who may be interested in the program or may have the need for it.

If you have any questions of would like to learn more about the program, contact them via phone at: 912-478-0712 (office phone) and email co06587-sw@georgiasouthern.edu
