*Don’t forget about our Book Club Leader Training/Get-Together this Sunday, September 22nd at noon in the Church Library. Looking forward to seeing everyone back together! Lunch will be provided!
Our Fabulous Garden Team was able to kick off the first day of gardening with the 5th graders before the storm hit. Our young gardeners completed a scavenger hunt to learn to identify plants, composted kitchen scraps and coffee grounds, tasted our basil with tomatoes and mozzarella cheese, sowed bush beans, and pledged to become plant geeks!
We are going to have a great year growing together thanks to our awesome volunteers: Jenny Sutcliffe, Sheri Lee, Mindy Piontek, Mimi Heinz, Fran Martin, Marie Varnes, and our new Community Coffee partners Elizabeth Brooks Panzica and David Hooper. A big shout out to Community Coffee for not only volunteering with us this year but also bringing us coffee grounds to use as fertilizer in our raised beds

Huge THANKS to our Teacher Encourager Volunteers who are taking treats to the entire faculty every Friday. The teachers are very appreciative of this kind gesture. Thank you, Lisa Frost, Nancy Hillman, Suzette Bahlinger, Janis Kile Roux, Sheri Lee, Randa Patrick, Kyle Wooldridge, Barbara Albright, Sarah Wylie, and Kay Willson.

September Sermon Series: Exploring Doubt
We often believe that doubt is the enemy of faith. However, doubt can actually be the bedrock of a richer faith life. Using Brian McLaren’s book Faith After Doubt as a guide, we’ll be journeying with our doubts throughout this series. We encourage you to dig deeper into the questions you dare not ask out loud in church. We’ll encourage you to work through those questions in this series.

Join us tomorrow for a time of connection at the home of Robert and Michelle Hoke from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with nursery available at the church.
Centering Prayer is a contemplative Christian meditation practice designed to deepen one's relationship with God by fostering a state of interior silence. It involves choosing a sacred word, symbol, or phrase that serves as a focal point to help the practitioner let go of distractions and enter into a quiet, receptive state of being. The practice is typically done for about 20 minutes, twice a day, and is intended to create a space for encountering God’s presence beyond thoughts, emotions, and sensory experiences. Centering Prayer emphasizes consent to God's action within and seeks to cultivate a deeper awareness of God’s indwelling presence in everyday life.
Centering Prayer will be held on Wednesdays, from noon-12:30 p.m. on Zoom beginning Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024.

Women’s Walk to Emmaus: October 3rd-6th at Broadmoor United Methodist Church. The Focus of Emmaus is God as known in Jesus Christ and how that finds expression in the local church.
The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, and places of work. Emmaus lifts up the way for our grace-filled life to be lived and shared with others. The Walk to Emmaus events (separate Women’s Walk and Men’s Walk) is a three-day experience which takes a New Testament look at Christianity as a lifestyle. It is a weekend designed to strengthen and renew the faith of Christian people, and through them their families, congregations, and the world in which they live. Emmaus is a combined effort of laity and clergy toward the renewal of the church.
If you are interested in participating, please email Marianne Herbert at marianne.herbert@hotmail.com.

Join us and the University Presbyterian Church for the Blessing of the Pets. We invite you and your furry family members to gather with us on Sunday, October 6th at 5:30 p.m. in the back parking lot. This will be a great gathering to roll us into October together.

Have you lost a friend, family member, or someone you are close to recently? We understand that losing someone close to you is a deeply personal and challenging journey. During such a difficult time, you don't have to walk this path alone. We warmly invite any person interested to join this new Grief Group. It can be seen as a compassionate and confidential space where you can share, listen, and find comfort alongside others who have also experienced loss.
This group will begin on Monday, October 7th, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Parlor at University United Methodist Church. This group will run for eight weeks on Mondays. It will be led by Ki Addison. The book being used is called Understanding Your Grief: 10 Essential Touchstones for Finding Hope and Healing Your Heart by Alan D. Wolfelt, PH.D. The church will provide copies for any person wanting to participate.
