Campers in Action
This summer, campers at YMCA Camp Coniston, located in Grantham, NH, gave a hand at several UVLT properties, working in the gardens and restoring plant habitat. We're grateful to see these youth in action, and know the future of our conservation areas is bright with tomorrow's leaders at the helm!

And did you know, our pantry gardens have already produced hundreds of servings of fresh produce this season?! Thanks to Ledyard Bank for a grant to support our garden at Up On the Hill.

Bear Pond Natural Area
Sometimes, a very small parcel can have a big impact – for better or worse. In Canaan, NH the conservation of one small parcel contributes significantly to the ecological integrity of the larger surrounding landscape. Len Reitsma has donated a 7.5-acre inholding sandwiched between the Bear Pond Natural Area and the Mascoma State Forest in Canaan – over 1100 acres in total.
Treating EAB at Up on the Hill.
Earlier this month twelve Emerald Black Ash trees at Up On the Hill Conservation Area were treated for Emerald Ash Borer  (EAB) through a new program managed by the NH Division of Forests and Lands. Using an emamectin benzoate insecticide, which is a trunk-injected systemic pesticide, each application should be effective for at least three to four years.
On or before August 2nd, the UVLT will submit its application for renewal of its accreditation, a process conducted by the national Land Trust Accreditation Commission (LTAC), an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance. The land trust accreditation program recognizes land conservation organizations that meet national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands forever. UVLT was initially accredited ten years ago. This is our second renewal of accredited status. A public comment period on UVLT’s application is currently open.
Visitors to the Lyme Hill Conservation Area may have seen materials stockpiled at the perimeter of our parking area. Approximately 600 feet of trail, from the trailhead to the first major stream crossing, will be upgraded to meet accessibility standards. Improvements include the replacement of two existing bridges. We’ve hired the Upper Valley Trails Alliance to implement these changes, and their work crews and equipment will be on site several days this summer. 
Stargazing at Mountain View Farm

Join the Upper Valley Land Trust for a night under the stars led by Bobby Farlice-Rubio of the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium!
Mountain View Farm in the Quinttown region of Orford is the perfect place to take a tour of the night sky. Its remote location, 360 degree view, and lack of electric light pollution mean you can see the whole sky on a clear night. 
The event opens at 7:30 pm for those who want to come early and find their perfect viewing spot. The tour of the night sky begins at 8pm. In the past, participants have brought a picnic dinner to enjoy the time spent waiting for the sun to set.
Please bring your own blankets and chairs, and a flashlight or headlamp, which are necessary to find your way when leaving the event! We do ask that you keep all light sources off during the presentation. Please note that there is no electricity, potable water, or restroom on site.
This event is free and open to the public but donations are appreciated and may be made when you arrive or online anytime.
