UWFK Awards Half a Million Dollars

to Local Non-Profits

United Way of the Florida Keys is excited to announce that funding has more than tripled from previous years to support local non-profits in the 2018-19 Community Investment grant cycle. UWFK will disburse $496,000 in grants to 19 local nonprofits providing access to nutritious food, childcare support, and safety net services for those negatively impacted by Hurricane Irma.

United Way of the Florida Keys believes that our financial support of local non-profit agencies should be decided by the community, for the community. Each year, a dedicated team of volunteers helps in this process by participating in our annual Community Investment site visits, touring and evaluating each agency as part of the funding application process.

For those of you I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting, please allow me to introduce myself as your contact for United Way of the Florida Keys moving forward. I would first like to say THANK YOU for your support and that I am excited to be working together changing lives throughout Monroe County.

Do You Know ALICE?

According to a study released in May 2018 by the United Way ALICE Project, 43% of American families can't afford basic necessities.

Here in Monroe County, this number is even higher.

The Florida Keys Electric Co-op has not only been a benchmark in providing high quality electric utilities to the Upper and Lower Keys, but they have been instrumental in assisting the efforts of our mission. We wanted to take a moment to thank CEO Scott Newberry, and all of the employees for their continued support. We would also like to recognize UWFK's partnership with FKEC as their Member Services Supervisor Maria Jones is currently serving as UWFK's Board Chair.
