UHLER ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR KANSAS SENATE
Pledges to Bring Common Sense, Sound Judgment, and Know-How to Office

Fort Scott, KS -Robert Uhler of Fort Scott, declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination to the 13th District of Kansas Senate seat today. This vacancy was created by the appointment of Senator Jake LaTurner as State Treasurer.

Uhler, 47, currently serves as the Executive Vice-President of Mid-America Lumbermens Association (MLA), a four-state, regional non-profit trade association representing independently owned building material suppliers.

"I am pleased and honored to announce my candidacy for the Kansas Senate seat vacated by Senator LaTurner," Uhler said. "During the past several years as I have traveled around our great state. I have listened to Kansans share their dis-belief in the political process and lack of leadership coming out of Topeka. I thought this is the right time to get more involved, and see how I can help southeast Kansas."

"Most importantly, the primary role for the new senator should be an advocate for all of the people in District 13.  There are many issues that will come before us in the next several years. They will be tough issues which we as Kansans will need to face together," Uhler added.

Uhler believes as the senator in this seat that active communication and link between the people of the district and Topeka is vital. "In my role at the association, I'm constantly in touch with both citizens and business owners.  I truly understand their needs and desires for Kansas to work together and solve its problems."

Along with his work at MLA, Uhler is involved in many activities serving the region and his hometown. He is a board member for the Fort Scott Chamber of Commerce, where he co-facilitates the Lead Bourbon County Program. Uhler is an active member of the Fort Scott Church of the Nazarene where he currently serves as Treasurer. He also is on the Board of Directors of Project 17 - Together We Succeed, a 17-county grassroots economic development group. In addition, he serves on several other boards representing the building and association communities.

Uhler lives in Fort Scott with his wife, Laurie. They have been married for 30 years and have two grown children and one granddaughter.

"I look forward to a positive campaign, meeting citizens of the district, and striving to tackle the tough challenges we face as Kansans to make our state better for future generations," Uhler said.
