Family Escapes Ukraine and Joins Our Boys & Girls Club

The Kovalchuk family escaped Ukraine, traveling thousands of miles, leaving their home and belongings behind before arriving here in San Diego. Fortunately, a Carmel Valley couple opened their doors and their hearts and invited them into their home.

As any mother would, she hoped her 3 children would be able to pursue their passions once again. And thanks to our Club, they have!

Max, age 15, was a competitive swimmer in Ukraine and we are proud to announce he is now a member of our Rancho San Dieguito swim team! Olga's two other children, Anna, age 4, and Ruslan, age 6, will be participating in our After School Program and Summer Adventure Camps.

We are proud to provide critical support to youth and families when they need it most. We were able to provide services to the children utilizing our finanical aid program.

Teens are finding comfort in doing "normal things" together again.

Robots Race Into After School Program

Gear Bots took over our La Colonia Clubhouse! Our youth built and programmed robots, while learning how to use gear ratios, which was the main topic of the workshop, to create a robot that went 5 times the normal speed. The lesson ended with a friendly drag race!

Thank you to STEM2Leaf Robotics for hosting weekly robotics workshops in our After School Program.

Our HR Team:

Thank You For Looking Out For Us

Kudos to more unspoken heroes of our organization, our Human Resources team! It's in the title, HUMAN. This department puts our people first and we feel it. This crew cultivates a culture of inclusivity and happiness, finds talented people (even during a universal staff shortage), encourages professional development, and makes sure the paychecks hit!

Managing our team of 45 full-time and 120 part-time employees is no cakewalk but they make it oh so sweet. Thank you to our Director of Human Resources, Mark Edington, and Human Resources & Payroll Assistant, LeKayla Noel!
