December 2021 Canadian Newsletter
Greetings!
This past month, the Ukrainian Canadian community solemnly commemorated the 88th anniversary of the Holodomor Famine Genocide of 1932-33 during National Holodomor Awareness Week. Thank you to everyone who organized events honouring the memory of the millions of victims of the Holodomor. Вічная Пам’ять.

As Russia again escalates aggression against Ukraine, we are working hard to keep Canadian politicians and policymakers informed about events and advocating for strong Canadian support for Ukraine. Please join our Call to Action and write to your MP. Read more about how you can make a difference in our Newsletter.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Giving Tuesday campaign this year! Thanks to your generous support, and the kind support of matching donations from the Ukrainian Credit Union Ltd and the Myhal Family Foundation, we were able to raise $55,797 that will help us continue our work to benefit our community. Thank you! Щиро Дякуємо!

On behalf of everyone at the UCC, I wish you and your loved ones a happy and safe holiday season!

Open letter from the Canadian Coalition to Combat Online Hate
The UCC is a proud member of the Coalition to Combat Online hate, a diverse array of communities and organizations who have experienced online hate first-hand, that has come together to protect diverse communities – and all Canadians – from online hate. Protecting Canadians from online hate and upholding the right to free speech is not zero-sum issue. Carefully crafted legislation can do both.

In recognition of the Government’s commitment to combat online hate, the coalition sent a letter to the The Honourable David Lametti, P.C., M.P. and The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, P.C., M.P., urging the government to swiftly introduce and pass critical legislation that would regulate online hate.

DONOR'S CORNER
Welcoming New Donors for Giving Tuesday!
This year Giving Tuesday for the UCC C & E Trust was a day that drove record-breaking giving!

With your contributions and our partners, the Myhal Family Foundation and the Ukrainian Credit Union Limited, we raised $55,746 from across the country. The outpouring of generosity to the UCC was outstanding, especially since you were invited by many other organizations to donate. I am so grateful that you chose the UCC Charitable Trust as a worthy organization of your gift.

During Giving Tuesday and throughout the year, you show us that you sincerely care and are passionate about our Ukrainian Canadian community and Ukraine.

UWC Webinar Dec 15: The Gamble of Appeasement
With the Russian military massed along the Ukrainian border, accompanied by the Russia-orchestrated migrant crisis in Belarus and staged gas crisis in Europe, Moscow is leading a well-planned purposeful hybrid destabilization campaign. Kremlin-controlled media is trumpeting threats of war to extinguish Ukraine’s statehood, and Ukraine’s key allies are concerned that another Russian military offensive against Ukraine may be imminent.

While Ukrainian leaders and civil society work to shore up Western support for Ukraine, Putin redraws red lines and consistently makes it clear he does not accept Ukraine’s independence.

Governor in Council appointments are public appointments by the Government of Canada to Crown corporations and federal entities (such as boards, agencies and commissions etc.)
We encourage qualified Ukrainian Canadians to put their names forward and to serve Canada and its people.
