Welcome to Wednesday and this week’s edition of Healthy Together! We hope your August is off to a wonderful start.

The Forsyth County Family YMCA recently hosted 19 Ukrainian kids at Camp Eagle Point. These kids' families have been impacted by the war. At Camp Eagle Point, they were able to take a break from the stress of life in Ukraine. A partnership with Uniting for Ukrainian Kids made this experience possible.

CARING FOR COMMUNITY

On Tuesday, August 1, more than 20 Gas South employees pitched in to tend to the Aquaponics Center at the Andrew and Walter Young Family YMCA in southwest Atlanta, in addition to painting an inspirational mural designed by student artists at Morehouse College and Clayton State University. The beautification efforts will support more than 100 children who visit the location on a regular basis to participate in youth programming.

Georgia’s Literacy Coach Visits Arthur M. Blank Family Youth YMCA

The Y is the largest Head Start and Early Head Start provider in the state and a leader in quality out-of-school time programs like afterschool and summer day camp. Georgia’s new literacy coach, Miranda Williams recently spent time visiting the Arthur M. Blank Family Youth YMCA.

During the visit, Williams toured the center and read literacy advocate and former UGA Bulldog and Super Bowl champion, Malcolm Mitchell's book, Hey, Georgia.

Through summer camp, the Y instituted a “Stop, Drop, and Read” program providing campers with reading time during the day to promote literacy and support summer learning.
