FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Statement by The Virginia Key Beach Park Trust About
Ultra Music Festival

Public spaces have become an important topic of discussion for many communities around the country. They  are not only parks, they are also key physical elements that shape our cities and help define our community identity.

Historic Virginia Key Beach Park (HVKBP) is a unique historic public recreational space with an important cultural history for everyone to explore and enjoy.

The City of Miami administration took the lead on the 2019 Ultra Music Festival negotiations.  The Ultra Music Festival proposal was approved by a 4-1 City Commission vote allowing the use of the Flex Park/Historic Miami Marine Stadium area, portions of Historic Virginia Key Beach Park and other city owned property on Virginia Key.
The Virginia Key Beach Park Trust is committed to working with City of Miami officials, Ultra Music Festival and local stakeholders to protect and preserve the historic and environmental elements on Historic Virginia Key Beach Park and the island of Virginia Key.

We encourage the community to learn more about Historic Virginia Key Beach Park master plan.

Gandhi Day with Treemendous Miami
On October 13th, HVKBP and its partner Treemendous Miami celebrated the University of Miami Gandhi Day of Service.

National Gandhi Day of Service, the largest day of service on the University of Miami campus, brings together a diverse group of 'Canes to volunteer in the South Florida community. We were honored to be one of their volunteer sites, allowing them to exercise the ideals of peace and civic duty advocated by Mahatma Gandhi.

About 20 participants beautified our park by planting native plants into the Beachfront village area.
In the early morning students began the planting process and later a second wave of 'Canes came in and mulched the new plants to give them the nutrients needed to survive. Be sure to swing by and take a look at their amazing work!

#PlasticisScary Keg & Klean!
We had the best (& spookiest) time at our  #plasticisscary  Keg and Klean!!!  So stoked to see so many people come out in fun costumes and clean up the beach! Together we collected over 400 pounds of trash! The best way to manage waste is not to create it- which is why the kombucha bottles were returned to  @brewinglifemiami  for reuse!!
