Friends of the Farm-

Tomatoes are here! While our tomato crop grows stronger each week, this is our first week featuring in a CSA delivery this season. Thanks for your patience as the local restaurants we serve have been quick to request all of our harvests for the past weeks. Both tomatoes and peppers are in peak-season form and will continue to shine in future weeks. We look forward to sharing these varied varieties and recipes to highlight ahead!

This week at the farm we planted a dedicated row of Adsuki beans, flipped previous Armenian cucumber rows for rest or future planting next week, readied our winter squash and artichoke crops for outdoor transplant, and made a big seeding push in our greenhouse nursery.

We've received positive feedback from our recent fruit features and have continued again this week with Santa Rosa Plums. In the spirit of neighborly collaboration, these juicy plums come from a fellow Suisun Valley fruit farmer. Our first Umbel Roots stone fruit trees have now been ordered and we begin prepping land for their arrival & successful integration to our growing farm.

This week's recipe calls for a healthy summer salad from Farmer William. Keeping things fresh & seasonal, this recipe uses a great deal of ingredients from this weeks box as an all-in one dish. Great for late-summer lunch or dinner, the grilled vegetable component adds the perfect taste of the season.

Don't forget to tune into this week's edition of our CSA music playlist...
This week we lean a bit towards the folksy / bluegrass side, but not of course with out the expectation for a disco-heavy beat or Umbel Roots dance groove we have been known to share. Standard-bearers such as Link Wray, Lead Belly, Little Richard, Bo Diddley, and John Prine all make appearances in this week's music pairing. Songs like The Flying Burrito Brothers, Lazy Day and Willie Nelson's, Blue Skies are just the late summer tracks we need for one last ride as days shift towards getting slowly shorter and autumn calls us in. Do enjoy!

Reminder that available as additions to any week CSA are the following current add-ons:
+ Umbel Roots fresh chicken eggs - $8 /doz
+ Umbel Roots Seasonal Herbal Tea Blend - $16 / lb
(Mint, Lavender, Chrysanthemum, & Calendula)
NEW! + Heirloom Tomatoes & Fruit - additional tomatoes & fruit can be added per week at your request for peak-season cooking (inquire via email for pricing)
*simply reply to this email to have any inclusions added to next week's box!*

This and other past newsletters from this CSA quarter can now be found via our website at UmbelRoots.com. In the case of wanting to revisit a recipe, produce guide, or past playlist they are all collected here under the Newsletter Archive tab. We will continue to update each week.

All our best from the farm,
