Friends of the Farm-
Welcome! This week marks the formal roll-out of Week 1 of our first quarter of CSA as Umbel Roots! We're so glad to have you and excited to share the next 13 weeks of farm-fresh vegetables. Whether a familiar friend from our transfer from the previous iteration as Kicking Bull Farms, a trial member that has enjoyed our past few weeks of produce as we geared up, a first time CSA-er, or new friend of Umbel Roots- we are so grateful you've come along for the ride!
To give you a sense of what's to come, this weekly mailer will be sent to accompany your Umbel Roots vegetable box in anticipation for home delivery or local pick-up.
It will serve as a handy guide when unpacking your box and navigating what's fresh this week, along with a recipe to give you a running start in your weekend cooking or help with those lesser-known vegetables that we are geeking-out over at the farm.
Here we will also let you know what activity we've been up to by way of planting, produce coming on in-season, or general news from our farm.
This past week we put a lot of effort in developing our tomato beds. 200 new tomato starts went into the field this past week alone with the promise of juicy red tomatoes just ahead in the summer season. Our greenhouse is seeing a lot of evolutions these days as well with consistent seeding for future successions of produce now in our beds, and up-potting of varieties we've started from seed in the winter and spring. Artichokes are a great example of a crop in their "teenage years" needing a bit more space in larger pots and just a bit more growth before heading to their very own outdoor plot.
We continue to invite you to share your love of Umbel Roots with your network and neighbors. We do have a few limited spots remaining for this current quarter. For anyone still looking to join we can still welcome members at a prorated rate, serving the Napa, Sonoma, and Fairfield communities.
