Friends of the Farm-

Fall is here! This week, we're sure of it. Cooler temperatures, rain in this weekend's forecast (finger's crossed, but we've learned not to hold our breath), and the transition of beds, crop successions, and greenhouse seeding for future fall and winter crop means it's real and here to stay. I'd mention playoff baseball in that call out of signature signs of Fall, but last night hurt a bit for Giants fans out there, sorry.

In this week's recipe we feature a Moroccan Red Lentil soup that highlights Chard, Carrots, Green Onions, and Peppers from this week's CSA box. As big fans of soup year-round as a catch all for lots of nutritious produce, we think this recipe is a nice one to ease into "soup season" with. Great too when paired with Bay Grape's recommendation for March Wines Ricci Vineyard St. Laurent ($32) and a side of blistered Shishito peppers!

Don't forget to tune into this week's edition of our CSA music playlist. Link to our Spotify playlist is attached below to join the groove...
Gold stars awarded to those who make it all the way through the 32 tracks and roughly 2.5 hours of music this week. We applaud your dancing stamina! We too have been dancing at the farm with this afro-beat & disco heavy dance blend. Lots of favorites spread throughout, but don't miss the opening track entitled D'Hardest, Olu Dara's veggie-loving track Okra, or the flute & album art of Herbie Mann's Push Push (featuring Duane Allman). We've built a few breaks in the playlist for slower tracks, plus a nice cool down at its end with heartfelt songs from Gillian Welch & a timely song from Warren Zevon as you prepare your mind & body for day's end. Enjoy!

Our website has seen recent adds this week! We invite you to visit UmbelRoots.com and browse new additions that can be added to your weekly CSA, such as fresh farm eggs, chicken, greens, teas, and more. We are also taking deposit on heritage turkeys for Thanksgiving this year, raised by yours truly. Take a look and continue to support Umbel Roots with your home cooking and holiday planning!

November 5th starts our next season of CSA. Be on the look out for how to continue without interruption of our next 10-week season in the weeks to come.

This and other past newsletters from this CSA quarter can now be found via our website at UmbelRoots.com. In the case of wanting to revisit a recipe, produce guide, or past playlist they are all collected here under the Newsletter Archive tab. We will continue to update each week.

All our best from the farm,
Tom & William
