Friends of the Farm-

Rain, glorious rain! It's here! For real!!
October is always a crapshoot as to whether the forecasts of 20-60% chance of showers will ever result in any serious precipitation or alas, just another tease... We're so happy to have received the rains we did see this week, along with more promised this weekend and ahead. The farm has such a glow and instant refreshment with this weather as well as setting our fall and winter planting up for success. This week we saw a great push in our greenhouse with considerable seeding and up-planting. Artichokes, beets, kales, broccoli, cauliflower, and more are all now slowly awakening in the nursery with care.

In this week's recipe we feature a warm Chard & Carrot Quinoa Salad that calls for a good mix of this week's produce all in one dish. Great too when served alongside our Umbel Roots green's mix which features Red-Veined Sorrel, Flashy Trout, Mustard Greens, Oak Leaf, Trancas, and Brentwood greens this week.

To pair, we've leaned on our friends at Bay Grape for a favorite wine of theirs in the shop this week: Les Lunes Cosmic Blend -Sonoma ($24). Pay them a visit to try this and other favorite wines for the season. Or better yet, tell them what you're cooking tonight with your produce and see what they might recommend!!

Don't forget to tune into this week's edition of our CSA music playlist. Link to our Spotify playlist is attached below to join the groove...
This week we lean a bit heavier on some hip-hop icons to get our blood bumping. Beastie Boys, Young MC, Q-Tip, Funky 4+1, and De La Soul set the tone out of the gate. Our mixes know not any one genre so we quickly get back to some favorites by Carl Perkins, Billy Lee Riley, and John Martyn. A few other favorites include MFSB's theme from Soul Train (T.S.O.P.), Country Girl by Johnny Otis & Shuggie Otis, and don't miss Shout Bamalama by The Detroit Cobras. Enjoy!

Our website has seen recent adds this week! We invite you to visit UmbelRoots.com and browse new additions that can be added to your weekly CSA, such as fresh farm eggs, chicken, greens, teas, and more. We are also taking deposit on heritage turkeys for Thanksgiving this year, raised by yours truly. Take a look and continue to support Umbel Roots with your home cooking and holiday planning!

November 5th starts our next season of CSA. Be on the look out for communication to come in the week ahead regarding how to continue without interruption of our next 10-week season of CSA. A great compliment to holiday cooking, seasonal eating and support of your favorite local farm continues all fall & winter long!

This and other past newsletters from this CSA quarter can now be found via our website at UmbelRoots.com. In the case of wanting to revisit a recipe, produce guide, or past playlist they are all collected here under the Newsletter Archive tab. We will continue to update each week.

All our best from the farm,
