God is calling you out in uncharted waters.
Isaiah 43: 1-2 “When you pass through the water, I will be with you.”
Greetings!
What a world we have been awakened to: a world of pandemics, wars and unhindered violence. The economy is falling apart in front of our eyes. The products that fuel the engine of the world – food and petroleum – are out of reach financially for the poor and the affects are starting to trickle up to the middle class in this country.
What a dilemma the poor are facing: do they pay their electric and gas bill or do they feed their family? It is not a decision I ever had to make and hope I will never have to. But for the poor and lower middle-class families in Englewood and surrounding communities, this dilemma is a reality right now.

Thousands of people a week are praising Shepherd’s Hope for their FOOD PANTRY and FEEDING CENTER. This allows them to get their groceries and still pay their utility bills. As for right now, Shepherd’s Hope has been able to share 70,000 pounds of food a week with our neighbors. Keeping the shelves stocked with 70,000 pounds of food requires a lot of man hours. That is one of the easier problems we have to deal with. The cost of natural gas and electricity is another problem. This is something we did not budget for and have been dealing with for four months already, which has put us in a precarious position. Now I understand firsthand the dilemma facing our under-resourced neighbors. The difference is they can come to Shepherd’s Hope to feed their families. We have to resolve our problem because thousands of people depend on us for their weekly groceries.
Double Your Support
To help raise the money needed to pay for our utility bills and to keep us current through the summer months, 2 of our executive board families have appropriated $10,000 for a matching grant to help Shepherd’s Hope raise the resources needed to keep the ministry operationalWE NEED YOUR HELP!!  This matching grant will be available through May 31, 2022

Grant Funding Efforts
Shepherd’s Hope has also applied for 4 other grants. The 2 smaller grants we feel confident we will get. One is for $39,000 and will purchase a cargo van to enable us to deliver food to disabled individuals and homebound seniors. The second grant for $25,000 is strictly for operating capital. AMEN!

The other 2 grants were designed to be implemented by 3 ministries at THE CENTER collaborating together:
Shepherd’s Hope, New Life K.N.E.W. Solutions (a mental health ministry), and Midwest Coalition Against Violence. This collaboration will provide a HOT LINE that deals with Food Insecurity, Mental Health and Violence Prevention in the greater Englewood community. It will be the first initiative of its kind in Chicago. The second grant is for violence prevention in Englewood.

Through these 2 grant applications, we hope to enlighten the leaders who make the grant awards that Food Insecurity, Mental Health and Violence Prevention are intertwined and need to be dealt with together by a collaboration of ministry professionals who deeply care for the people they are serving. As a result, Englewood will be a safer and healthier place to live, changing the community one life and one family at a time.

Your prayers & support are needed.
Our prayer is that our donors will take advantage of this matching grant and help us with our operating costs. Most grants today target new programs and overlook the need for building and operating costs which provides the space and people to implement the new programs.

We are battling a tsunami of propaganda that says we need the government tell us what we need and should do. We have to stand up against this through our actions, not through idle rhetoric or marching but by doing what needs to be done. Being the solution through our actions, Shepherd’s Hope and the other ministries at THE CENTER of Englewood are in the midst of where the battles are being fought daily. Providing food for people that can’t afford it. Medical help, mental health screening, violence prevention and most of all being there for our neighbors to help guide them through life.

We need your help to make this happen. Remember your donations up to $10,000 will be doubled thanks to 2 of our board members. (ONLY GOD) Please note that this matching grant will be available through May 31, 2022.

We love you all and please know that we need your prayers more than ever!

Thank you again for all your support throughout the 13 years we have been in Englewood and your continued support as we navigate the uncharted waters that await us in the future!

Sincerely,
