DAAD offers grants to faculty members in all academic fields (except German Studies, German Language and Literature, and German Translation and Interpretation) to attend intensive language courses at various Goethe-Institut locations in Germany. Four-week courses are offered year-round. Apply by Jan 31st, 2018.

Undergraduate Scholarship

Highly qualified undergraduate students are invited to apply to fund study, senior thesis research and/or internships in Germany. Scholarships are available either as part of an organized study abroad program or an independent study abroad semester or year. Apply by Jan 31st, 2018.

Dietrich Wolf Fenner, Program Director of GAIN

Dietrich Wolf Fenner is the new program director of the  German Academic International Network (GAIN) . He helps design and organize events and workshops for German researchers in North America. Before joining GAIN, Dietrich was head of communications of the Berlin-based Government Foundation EVZ.

Media and Operations Intern Wanted

The German Center for Research and Innovation seeks a media and operations intern for a minimum of 6 months .
This position requires a commitment of 38.5 hours per week; additional evening and weekend hours may be necessary. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Start date is April 3, 2018.


Franco-German Fellowship Program
Strong Interest in Climate and Earth Science Program

Germany and France jointly support the implementation of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change. The German-French Fellowship Program attracted over 200 applications in its initial round. Round 2 will see 62 selected applicants from 23 countries compete for funding to pursue their innovative projects.

5,000 New Words Added to the Duden Dictionary

Germany's version of the Merriam-Webster is the reknown Duden dictionary. In 2017, 5,000 new words were added, including anglophone terms such as 'Couchsurfing,' but also tech words such as 'Emoji' and 'Selfie.' Will my North American degrees/qualifications be recognized in Germany?

Unfortunately, there is no generally valid answer to this question. You should certainly contact the higher education institution of your choice in Germany. The respective departments or faculties govern these questions independently. Please click  here  for a list of all degree programs in Germany.
