During the month of November, Georgetown University joins the nation in commemorating Native American Heritage Month. We celebrate the contributions of our Native American and Alaska Native students, faculty and staff to Georgetown and to society, as well as acknowledge the teaching, scholarship and advocacy on Native American heritage that our community is engaged in.
We remember that Georgetown University itself resides on land that was and still is the homeland of Indigenous peoples, including the Nacotchtank and Piscataway Conoy peoples.
All members of our community can engage in recognizing Native American Heritage Month through community events - check back for updates!

Through internships at a faith-based organization that helps provide medical treatment for people in need and an NGO focused on the Americas, two students at the School of Health are gaining practical experience in disease surveillance and more. |

Georgetown encourages eligible employees to register and vote in national, state and local elections. Upon request of an employee, Georgetown will permit two hours of paid leave for an employee to arrive late or to depart early from work to exercise the right to vote. |

This Tuesday: Ruggles Lecture on Military Medicine |
The annual Ruggles Lecture on Military Medicine, featuring Captain Adam Saperstein, MC, USN, will be presented Tuesday, November 8 at 6:00 p.m. in Proctor Harvey Amphitheater, Medical-Dental Building. Saperstein is a family medicine physician with extensive clinical and leadership experience, as well as more than 20 years of military service. |

These are the last few days for faculty and staff/AAP members to share their perspectives and experiences through the first-ever cultural climate survey. The survey closes Wednesday, November 9. If you have not yet completed the survey, you'll receive a reminder message with the survey link on Monday, November 7. Georgetown’s Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) is developing a mentorship network for the Latine medical community. This volunteer-based program will facilitate relationships between students, physicians and researchers to help guide young Latine medical students towards their career goals. “Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer’s: First, Do No Harm” is a free continuing education activity that covers the harms and benefits of pharmacological treatments for Alzheimer’s and how to best care for dementia patients. Starting in mid-November, we will transition to a new COVID-19 testing system on our campuses. Saliva-based PCR tests will be available at no charge to Georgetown community members via six “smart” vending machines at the main campus, medical center, law center and School of Continuing Studies. The university is partnering with Shield T3 Health to provide this new testing model.
In the new testing process, you will be able to order a test by smartphone and pick it up at any time from an on-campus vending machine, take the test at any time as long as it’s one hour after eating or drinking, and return it to a dropbox next to the vending machine. The tests will then be collected for lab testing and the results will be reported directly to you and Georgetown’s Public Health team.
The current appointment-based One Medical PCR testing will continue to be available in the Leavey Center Ballroom through December 22. If you have any questions, please contact Georgetown’s Public Health team at carenavigators@georgetown.edu.
