A Word from the CEO
Hamas' vicious attack on Israel provoked outrage around the world. We have received many requests from JRB participants asking us to move up our Fall Israel Bonds Offering in order to provide immediate funds to Israel during this difficult time. We agree. Working with Israel Bonds, the JRB has moved up the timeline for our Fall Offering to participate in Israel Bonds’ international campaign to raise funds for the Jewish state. See our article for information on the Bond Offering and an application form you can use to purchase Israel Bonds. Join the JRB to stand with the people of Israel.
In the last few months, Andrew, Doug and I have fielded questions about the JRB's Stable Value Interest Fund. Participants want to know why, after more than a decade of consistently outperforming money market securities, Stable Value Interest Fund returns now trail them. As the article in this month's newsletter shows, the Fund's returns reflect Federal Reserve interest rate hikes and the mixture of bonds it holds. The article also explains why Stable Value Interest Fund yields are rising and why we believe that, long-term, it will again surpass the returns of money market investments — while providing a guaranteed rate of return.
On a sad note, Rabbi Matthew H. Simon, z''l, a 45-year stalwart of the JRB Board of Trustees, passed away. As a Trustee representing the Rabbinical Assembly, he served several terms as Board Chair and member of the JRB Executive Committee. He also chaired multiple Board Committees. Barukh Dayan Ha-emet.
Looking ahead, the JRB is a proud sponsor of the Conservative/Masorti Shabbaton and Convening in conjunction with the Cantors Assembly, Rabbinical Assembly, USCJ and the other major Conservative Movement organizations. For more information on this Movement-wide gathering, see our article below. I look forward to seeing you in Baltimore in December.
Finally, a note for those with student debt. The student loan payment moratorium has ended and payments restart in October. For more information, see our article in the "In Case You Missed It" section below.
