GOOD NEWS ABOUT UNEMPLOYMENT
As previously reported, the unemployment system has been backlogged. Staff have been working around the clock to resolve the issue. One big problem was a very outdated computer program which they have now updated and fixed. So here we are…
-all backlogged applications should be processed by April 25
-delays from application to receiving benefit should be 7 days not 6 weeks YAY!
-The system should be set up to handle the Federal $600 per week benefit by the end of April!

We will let you know when all of you independent contractors, gig performers and self-employed people will be able to access the system. You CANNOT APPLY NOW-YOU WILL BE DENIED BENEFITS so please do not clog the system with your application. You will receive retro benefits from the time you furloughed yourself –any time after March 27. If you were furloughed before that date you will not receive benefits for that time—they start March 27.

The Chamber would like to acknowledge the work the DOL has done to upgrade their 1950’s software and in their ability to gather resources to process 3 years of applications in weeks. Although most of you waiting for benefits may feel “unloved”, this was really a GIGANTOUS amount of work. Staff have been working 7 days a week to help you all. So thanks DOL!

ECONOMIC IMPACT CHECKS $1200
If you did not file taxes in 2018, 2019, do not get social security or railroad retirement, then you will need to go here and put in your information. They will need you social security number and bank account and routing numbers. Some folks who filed taxes received their money today. Yay!
