TLC E-Transmissions - Sunday, December 30 thru Saturday, January 5, 2019
Gather in Grace • Grow in Faith • Go Forth to Serve
This Sunday - December 30
First Sunday After Christmas
Grow in Wisdom
Senior Pastor Ed Treat
As we wrap up another calendar year, Psalm 90 provides a perfect reflection. It reminds us that God has been our home "through all the generations," from year to year to year (90:1). Even "before the mountains were born," God is God (90:2). God is always there for us.

As we hang a new calendar, this Psalm paints the big picture of life and puts it in perspective. "Seventy years are given to us! Some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away" (90:10).

Now that would be pretty depressing if not for Jesus and the promise of eternal life. Because we have Jesus Christ and the great promise, we can appreciate life even more in its brevity because we know that when we are done here, we are not done. Verse 12 offers this prayer to the Lord: "Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom."

Acknowledging the brevity of life, in light of the resurrection, helps us to appreciate each of our days and to use them well for God. May we live each day of the coming year as a new opportunity for love and service.

"Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives"
--Psalm, 90:14

Exodus Lending began in 2014 with a $50,000 grant at Holy Trinity Church on east Lake Street in Minneapolis. Their non-profit mission is to provide payday loan borrowers a pathway to financial stability.
Payday loans are small-dollar loans with interest rates as high as 450%. Unlike typical loans, lenders require payment on the next payday and borrowers often pay only the interest, and re-borrow, leading to “the payday loan debt trap”.
Exodus Lending will pay off these predatory payday loans. Program participants pay Exodus Lending back through manageable monthly payments over twelve months, with no interest or fees. In November 2017, they exceeded $103,000 in loans with a 95% repayment rate. As loans are paid off, they are able to make new loans to additional clients.
Through our Mission giving, TLC began supporting Exodus Lending in 2017. With your help we will be able to continue and possibly increase our involvement.
